How essential is the infant insert for a newborn? My baby is 3 weeks old tomorrow and about 8 pounds or so. Should I just get the insert?
Thanks.

i never like the infant insert much, but then I probably wouldn't use an ergo at that age

Yes, you'd need it to carry your baby in the ERGO. Plus, it makes a nice changing pad, carseat blanket, seat cushion, etc...

You could always try the froggy position instead of the insert:

But personally, I can't imagine an Ergo being very comfy with a newborn. I loved it for the back carry, but it's not as comfy in the front carry. I'd try a stretchy wrap like the Moby or a MT instead.
