Why Do People Care about their Post Count?

I see people wondering about their post count increasing and I was curious why this would be important. Is there some kind of "bonus" when you reach a certain number of posts? I am aware of the 50/60 rule for TAO and Trading post but otherwise... what's the big deal?

(No offense to those who care- I'm just curious! Maybe I should care, too!)

There's the switch from "new member" to "member" at 50 posts (or is it at 51?) and then there's the switch from "member" to "senior member" at 1000 posts. Once you hit "senior member" status, you can get a free "senior member title" under your name that you get to pick out. For example, I selected "Crunchy Kosher Mommy". If you want to change it there's a small fee, but the first change (from "senior member" to whatever you choose) is free.

Beyond that, it's just a bunch of longtime MDC members being silly- we tease each other about "having no life" if the postcount is high, or "being a newbie" if the post count is lower. I've seen 2 members "race" to get to a certain post count first. There have been lots of playful threads about post counts. Really it's all in good fun and nothing serious is meant by it.

Well I'm a mere lowly "member" but someone told me something about a biodiesel fueled jet and hangar once you hit 20,000 posts. So I'm banking on that because I need to get to Bermuda ASAP...

In fact, that's the only reason I'm responding to this thread.

Because we have no life

... seriously, I know it's dumb, but I still like setting little goals for myself (I'm trying to reach 3,000 before the baby gets here). I don't go around posting stuff for no reason though. I almost always have something useful to say.
