So what are you going to do with all the candy?

How are you going to handle the mounds of candy tomorrow?
The stuff we're giving out or the stuff my children will be bringing home?
I'll let my 3 yo eat some. But then Daddy will sort it and we'll tell her we'll put the rest in the cupboard for her. Then we'll eat half of it , throw out the stuff we don't like/don't eat, and dd will be happy as pie that there's a little bag still there for the next few days.

What age do they figure out the mathematics of volume? Then I'm in trouble.

We didn't go trick or treating this year.. BUT usually I make the boys give me most of the reeses peanut butter cups (as payment ) and then I sort it usually getting rid of all the harmful hard candies and suckers and gum.. gum is bad. Then I try to hide it , they usually find it and sneak candy but after about a week of snarfing on candy I toss it. Then comes the lovely Christmas candy moving on into Easter candy.. and so it goes on.

Gum is bad? Worse than candy in general?
My DD is too young to trick or treat.
And I'm hoping that we get enough kids to take care of most of the stuff we're handing out.

eat some right away- a couple pieces- then put some in the candy jar which we dip into now and then.

I read in a magazine of a mom using the candy as money for her Halloween store. She bought stuff from the dollar store like stickers, notepads, pencils... cool stuff your kids would enjoy. Well she only opened the store the day after Halloween, and the kids used the candy to buy stuff from the store. I think she used some kind of food scale and marked each thing a certain weight (i.e. a notepad was 1/4 pound of candy). I'm not too sure about measurements but you get the idea. The candy that was used to buy from the store was sent to her DH's workplace. I thought it was a great idea.

In my house or car YES! I can't tell you how many times I have had to scrape gum off of things because someone has stuck it there when finished instead of the garbage can. Also for me and I think for my oldest ds gum triggers our TMJ to "act up". I can't stand the clicking and I get terrible headaches from it so does ds.

In our house, candy has monetary value and each of my DDs willpick out a toy and "buy" it with Halloween candy. The Halloween candy will then go in the trash and hopefully not into my mouth. We have been rehearsing for this for weeks so hopefully the transaction goes smoothly.

When we get home tomorrow, we'll let her splurge and eat a few pieces. Over the next few days, we'll let her eat 1 or 2 pcs a couple times during the day. We'll also be sharing too (she actually likes to share the stuff she doesn't like, which is alot since she is picky, lol). Then I stick it up in the cupboard and she'll only ask for it for another day or 2 before it's forgotten. We still have Easter candy, lol.

DS is only 20 months so we're only going to a few houses (much more for my benefit and cuz he looks soooooo cute in his kitty cat costume). I'll let him have a couple pieces, I and DH will eat the rest

DD is only 3.5 so this is the first year that I'm afraid she'll notice that the "candy fairies" come and eat all her stuff at night. Seriously, though, I'm lurking here to find a good idea...

I saw another thread around here maybe a week or two ago about this subject. Some mamas said they have a "halloween goblin" or a "pumpkin fairy" that visits there house on halloween night. They take the candy and leave a toy. Sometimes the bag is so heavy and full they "accidentally" drop a few pieces of candy on their way out. I thought it was a pretty cool idea! I don't have any children yet, but I mentioned this to my mom a few days ago, and my 8 year old sister overheard and thought it was so cool, and she hoped that maybe the pumpkin fairy will visit her on halloween night! Just an idea!

: We are doing the spooky scarecrow though. We have this scarecrow on our wall who's going to come to life with the help of all ds candy and leave him a wonderful present in return( Legos). We will let him pick out a few peices of non candy items he gets, if he gets any at all , and the rest i plan on taking to work with me tommorow. Minus a few for me and my dh of course.

My kids are 8 and 11. We have found that by letting them eat to their heart's content Halloween night, they tend not to even look at the stuff the next day. We might freeze some of it and eventually, we toss the rest.

My kids are still young- about to turn 3 and 4.5yo.
We give it to our local food shelter. My kids don't mind giving it to them at all. They actually look forward to going to the shelter with it.

They get a few small non-candy treats...and just playing with those glow sticks and dressing up is a thrill!

well we don't get a ton of candy, since my kids are young and it's gonna be cold we will only go to a handful of houses. It's really not that much, even though they aren't used to eating sweets that often.

I'll let them eat as much as they want tonight... or I'll see how it goes atleast. Last year that worked fine and meant maybe 5-7 pieces each (not my youngest) then they aren't so interested. I mean, usually kids know when to stop eating something if the yare uncomfortable. Then the next few days I'll probably let them eat what they want as long as it's not in the place of a meal. Between DH and I and the 3 of them I'm sure the candy will be gone in several days... but again we don't get a ton of it to begin with. They just enjoy walking around the neighborhood and showing off their costumes, it's not about "how much candy can I get" I know that comes later though

We eat it! My Ds and I are trying to lower our sugar intake lately, so I doubt that we will consume a lot all at once. I think it will last for a bit. We'll set it in a dish on the table for us and whoever.
