Reb - I love love love your newborn photos! I think my favorites are the one where the baby is being held in his hand (looks like the babe's sleeping) and another where the babes' yawning in the blanket. Awesome captures.

And jooj - you are stunning!

scary part? I did it yesterday sometime, way before I read your blog.

eery - but really cool...it's amazing how life works that way. You know this babe can actually hurt with some of his movements he's so strong?! It's amazing.

Thanks poppy! I was so proud of it. When I started it I really thought what on earth have I gotten myself into? It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. My friend told me it wouldn't be, but she's amazing in that regard so I had a hard time trusting her word

sally - the m/s for me was a rough rough period. How far are you now? Are you one to have m/s for the duration or just the first tri. I remember Geo really having difficulties with m/s, maybe she has some home remedies?

I read a book called something like The Morning Sickness Companion. It only helped in that it helped me accept feeling crappy. I'd already tried everything suggested. For me, the formula for getting through the day with only a few pukes was:

Turning off all moving icon on my computer. Depending on the browser you use, there's a way to get all the MDC icons to just STOP. (My DDC had a rule against the use of the : puke icon on account of me and a few others who would join it anytime we saw it)

Moving first thing in the morning. I would bike to work (15 minutes) or walk some (<1 km) every morning. This actually helped despite my every muscle just wanting to shrivel up and die.

2 almonds for hour that I was awake.

1 T lemon juice per 16 oz water (errr, ~15 mL per L?)

Early, I was drinking ginger tea to calm my stomach. After seeing my cup of tea twice a few times, I couldn't drink it anymore. I still can't.

Afternoon naps on the weekend.

No dim lights. All rooms were completely lit if I was awake.

Luke warm showers in a relatively warm bathroom.

I found I was happiest puking in the sink with the water running.

I finally weaned dd (30 weeks).

I hope your m/s passes quickly by 12-14 weeks. Mine lasted through labor. I would get a bit better for 5-10 days at a time, then ds would have a growth spurt, and I'd get sick again.

Hi Ladies,
I hope yall had a good weekend!
2BBs congrats on the race you are fast! and animus, congrats on fitting back into pre-preg clothes! that is a great feeling I have the problem that I can fit back into mine but nothing quite fits the same as before... the bod is different somehow!

Got 4 miles in today but felt soooooo slow, although the Garmin said my pace was average for me. Do yall run with a Garmin or anything like that? I really have no need whatsoever for one, but MIL gave DH one for his bday (she started heaping running stuff on him once he agreed to run a marathon w/ her - she's 65 and does at least 1/year - and his twin bro). Now I'm addicted to wearing it when I run and checking out all the stats, and saving all my laps and stuff. Is that geeky?

yall have a good week....

Uh, I was in love with my timex speed/distance GPS monitor til I discovered during my 1/2 marathon that it was telling me I was going 30sec/mile faster than I was!! It destroyed my trust in it and I haven't worn it since. I miss it - sucks when something isn't as wonderful as you thought it was - and I have a hard time knowing how fast I'm going without it.

2BB - wow, blazing fast race!!!

creb - love your portraits! especially the newborn and redhead boy with black dog. really stunning!

1jooj - you look great!

I only worked in one run this weekend (this morning) and it was cut short by teething G wailing. Poor guy - he's getting about 6 teeth at once - last night he woke up and nothing I could do, including nursing (had already given tylenol a couple of hours before), soothed him. He finally cried himself to sleep snuggled next to me after about 1/2 hour. Did a lot of solo parenting this weekend because DH is prepping for a job interview this week. I'm so excited for him It's an interview for a tenured professorship at the univ. 2 miles from my job where he's already teaching and collaborating with some folks : Once he (hopefully) gets a tenure-track job (he gave up tenure to move here for my job... and the CA sun), I'll feel more secure about our future here.

One vent - poopy accidents in already potty-trained preschooler. E has discovered he LOVES granola and will eat it for multiple meals per day if given the chance. Downside is misbehaving bottom. Thank goodness when I discovered the mess at his friend's birthday party today, another mama was there to hold G. Those freaking tiny bathroom stalls didn't have room for G to be in the Kozy on my back. I think part of the problem is that E hates sitting on public toilets - he'll stand and pee in them, but that's it. And of course the "granola effect" Okay, vent over.

'Night y'all.

Thanks Geo, i had it the whole way through with dd, was also still puking in labour. I started the m/s a lot later this time and am really hoping it goes away at 12ish weeks this time. I am now 8 weeks. i really want to get out an exercise again but i can hardly drag myself around the house and keep up with dd.

Another question anyone know what fish is safe in pregnancy? i get my omega from Flax so not really worried about that just want to avoid mercury
post #171 of 932
Sally Z how miserable!!! I seem to remember that tuna and bottom fish are the ones to be avoided, but I'm not sure on that.

There are backstage pics on my blog, and here's one of "tongue hair". Can you see it? Boy is that an unflattering picture of me, though!

My goals for the week.

Monday: Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. I should do yoga, but I'm going to hang loose instead.
Tuesday: Run 60 min.
Wednesday: Dance classes
Thursday: Run 40 min.
Friday: Yoga, I hope. There will be 15 girls. ages 11-13 in my house all morning!!
Weekend: Take it easy. I'll start doing a long weekend run again after the show closes.

Here's a good guide: http://www.oceansalive.org/eat.cfm?subnav=healthalerts

When I was preg, I would only eat wild pacific salmon, and even that only once a month or so.

Hard day with my kids yesterday so as soon as they were in bed I headed out the door and let dh deal with the "just one more thing" routine.
I brought along some good music and walked along the beach under the full moon - I highly recommend it! I did a little running but my lungs protested so mostly I walked as hard as I could for 90 minutes.
Shanti, I wanted to tell you that DH and I loved the parsnip, carrot, and maple soup! So yummy! The mint maple cream to go with it was really good, too. We are having it again tonight and I am already looking forward to it! Thank you for sharing the recipe.

aw, shucks. Thanks for the compliments, ladies.

I am trying to decide whether to run this AM, leaning toward NO, but I'll get a run in today. Probably at dinner time, going to try for 6miles. Going to try to make it a fast (for me) run. I was just too tired this AM, after the rollercoaster of the weekend. We offered on the farmette, got an unacceptable counteroffer, will likely counter that this afternoon, and also see about getting a sign out in front of our house. I'm all right with not getting the place. Basically, I'd probably rather wait to move until dd is kindergarten-aged anyway, just to have that major part of my life streamlined. I'll likely be FT by then, too, so financially we'll be that much stronger. If we give ourselves 2 years, we could have another 60K in equity on our home, no daycare expenses and higher salaries--as much as another 20K or so a year. And the kids will be more ready to be on a farm with us at 7 and 5 than at 5 and 3.

Either way, it will be fine. I just have to restrain dh from putting an offer on a junk farm we also looked at.

BBM- That cake was amazing. My dd would love such a thing. Unfortunately I am tremendously cake baking impaired. And if you want to do the Turkey day race I say go for it. You can wog, walk, whatever works. I think it is a fabulous tradition even if dh is being stinky about it.

Shanti- I love hearing about your walks. I wish I was that close to the water. My favorite place to run.

1jooj- The picture was beautiful: Hope the farm situation works out for the best. And that you get a great 6 miles in today.

Naughty Dingo- Hope you are feeling better. So soon now. Love when the babe drops but made me ancy. You'll be running with us before you know it.

CherylAnn- Hope the program is going well. I can't even imagine the stress. Audrey looks great. What a fun process. Enjoy your week!

Eks- Glad to see you out for some long miles. It is good for the soul. How fun to have someone to run with too!

SallyZ- Hope you are feeling better soon!

calicocj- I don't have one of the fancy gps things. Generally I just time my runs and check pace against my mileage. I know if I had one I'd be obsessive about it. This way I have a general notion of how fast I am but I don't get too worried about pace and enjoy my runs.

cRebRun, Jenlove, Grnmtnmama, Patti Ann, Jannessa, Geo, Poppywise, Loftmama, Kerc, Wawoof, Flitters, & everyone else!:

I am sore from the race on Saturday. Not the can't walk sore, but still sore. Did nothing yesterday. Today I had ambitions of a longer run but the legs said no way. So it was a slow 3 miles. But I am okay with that. Looks like it will be warm today so I am going to walk at lunch. Hopefully by tomorrow I will have flushed the soreness out then.

Hope everyone gets a moment to get out there today!

hey folks
i haven't been able to post for a few days.
am really stuck in a rut, physically and emotionally. i worked really hard last winter to stay off meds for depression and it is so early in the winter to be thinking about it. i am just having trouble getting happy.
ran 3 1/2 miles on the treadmill saturday. i showed up for karate class, but there wasn't any. the session at the y had ended and i had forgotten. oh well. i did run, stretch, and did 100 crunches. i plan on doing another 3 miles on the treadmill today. actually this evening. or maybe i will do them outside, in which case i will do probably 5 miles. i am really starting to hate the cold.
i love the new born pics and the woman on the motorcycle. a pink harley? i love it!!!
anyone have any ideas on getting out of this major funk i am in???
thanks
peace
michele

Hello gorgeous 1jooj! lucky you to be a part of creb's portfolio. I SO wish she could come do a shoot with my kiddos for Christmas! My favorite newborn shot was the one where she was held by the tattoo with her name on it. so sweet!

by the way, any of you artistic mamas want to design me a tattoo sometime? after ds is weaned I'm getting my 2nd. something incorporating running, hearts, and being a mama, so I can be reminded why I run and eat healthy.

I am so behind but 2bbs!!!!!! wow mama!!!!!! I am so in awe and happy for you at your pushing yourself to new heights of speed!!!!!!! awesome.

I ran four miles yesterday in TN for world run day. the theme of my running lately seems to be "Hills and more hills." yikes. but good for the half, since it's pretty hilly. I'm also still fighting this bug...dd is too but I sent her to school since it seems to be breaking up : it's always such a tough call. must go shower and things while ds is asleep...we are headed to charleston again on Thursday and I am dreading the drive, though it'll be fun to be there. take care mamas!
x-posted with hsmomma... sorry mama. sounds like you're doing all you can do, and if you need meds, you need meds. let us know how it's going, but good for you for getting out there. When I've gotten depressed, even if I don't want to go running I find it's worse if I don't go, you know?

BTW the "woman on the Harley" is the lovely creb herself!
and speaking of (am I the queen of the posting dingoes today or what?) I found this article in an old RW that talked about how people who are prone to depression are naturally attracted to running because it helps. um, seems pretty true around these parts. I will try to find the link.

my posting is over for now, ds is up already.
