Card from the governor

Yesterday in the mail I received a really pretty "congratulations on your new baby" card from the governor. Yes, my child is 8 1/2 months old, but that's beside the point.

Anyway, tucked inside the card was an insert about breastfeeding! My state's (Illinois) First Lady is very pro-breastfeeding and the insert basically very briefly gave some benefits of BF and the laws (NIP, no jury duty,etc.) I was so excited!

I don't know if everyone gets these cards (I've never heard of anyone getting one.) or if we got it becasuse DH and I are both state employees. Either way, YAY for them for getting out the word on BF!

Now if only it would have been a little more timely. Oh well, baby steps I guess.

Yes, I received one within the last month. My daughter is 15 months old!! I had to laugh when I got it - a little late Governor! While I appreciated the info on breastfeeding, it also contained vaccine propaganda, which I didn't appreciate, but that's another issue.

I received one shortly after ds's birth (in Idaho), but enclosed was a card for vaccines. It was a nice thought - wish there would have been breastfeeding info enclosed too!

Yea, the main point of the one I received was for vaxes, for the CHILD profile thing they have in Washington-mailings corresponding with each well-child visit age, about safety, development, and mostly vaxes. I think they may have included something about breastfeeding when I first got it, though.

Yup, I got one too. I think my DD was about 6 months.

I got one when my dd was born, but unfortunately Ryan was gov then so only vax crap was included.

It is great to hear that they are making women aware of their bf'ing rights here in IL. It would just be nice if they were sent in a more timely manner before many women give up on bf'ing.

I just got one today (for my nine-month-old )

The breastfeeding insert went in the diaper bag, and the vax stuff will be going in the recycling bin once the husband brings it in.
