August 05 Mamas - Happy November!!! - Page 6

Welcome to the world, Sarah! And way to go Emily-I am so happy for you. I have been checking this thread out many times a day, hoping for news! So glad all is well. BTW-love the name (Sarah is my name, and Anne is my mom's name! Good choices).

I'm so thankful for my son that just turned 1!! My husband and my family that give me support that I can't live w/o!

Congrats Emily!!! Blessed Be - Sarah Anne!!!

I haven't been able to post much lately, and when I do it's usually questions on the VBAC board or TTC and Nursing board. I really want another baby!!!

Deladis is doing wonderful. She is really enjoying the Parent/Child Program at the Waldorf School here. So am I. We are going this evening to celebrate Martinmas. She's made and latern and will walk in a procession through the woods. It's going to be fun.

A few days ago she woke up and the first word out of her mouth was "no", and now, everything is "no". It is making me a little nervous at times. I'm worried that I might be using it too much without realizing it. I do redirect her often. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Nursing - well DD is still almost EBF. She eats maybe once a day, but rarely eats enough to satisfy her hunger. The only foods she will eat are bread, Udon noodles, and sausage. I've tried to get her to eat other things, but she just won't. I'm trying not to worry, but we have to nurse so often now, it's a little tedious.

Skana - I'm thinking of you.

We are having to vacate our home and be nomads for 3 weeks at least while the lead paint is removed from our home. We did get our grant to do it, so that is nice. I just hope we can survive the 3 weeks away from home and our rhythm of life. Wheww!! I'm happy, but dread it at the same time. :

Does anyone else have a child that really loves to clean up? She also can't stand for dirt to be on her hands, or food.

It's nice to have this thread, and like minded mamas.

My oldest, Nathan, was like that. He almost never made a mess with his food (we actually smeared food on his face for pictures.). When he would climb on playground equipment, he would climb one platform, wipe his hands off, climb the next one, wipe his hands off, etc... I couldn't ever get him to enjoy finger paints. Mommy had to teach him how to jump in mud puddles. He actually will make small messes now, but always wants to wash up afterwards...not too bad of a deal!

Update on my little John the human monkey---you know those quiet moments when you know it is just too quiet to be good. There he was...contently playing with big brothers legos on TOP of the bunk bed. I knew it was coming, but was hoping he'd wait at least a few more months before giving me another reason for a panic attack. Oh yeah, and he tried to shave his lips off the other day. There's never a dull moment at our house anymore!!

Jamie, nice to "see" you!

Hi ladies! I wrote a looong post during A's nap today and lost it aaaargh!

Emily! Congrats mama! Another sweet bundle! Welcome little Sarah! I hope we get to see pics soon and you're having a rich babymoon!

Skana, hope your feeling better and your Dh's job signals a turning of the tides! Hugs to you! Love your pics and everybody's too!

Well, I woke up to a long lost "pal" this morning, good ol' AF! Almost two years to the date since my LMP with August (Nov 13th)- kinda wild! Very interesting timing, since DH and I have just been discussing whether or not to start using birth control. We hadn't been using anything but we have both been exhausted and at our wits' end in dealing with August lately and were re-thinking the idea of having another.

Don't get me wrong, we love him so dearly and he's a lot of fun as well but he is definitely high- intensity, especially lately, working on some molars for a couple weeks it seems. He bit my nipple so hard in his sleep last night and it is so sore today I can barely let him nurse on that side. He just keeps us on our toes!

Check out some recent pics:
http://www.soulshinefamily.smugmug.com/gallery/1973264

He is still talking up a storm, it's amazing! Sock, shoe, moon, star, heart, toes, ears, hair, car, truck are some of his most recent ones. Basically anything we take the time to teach him. Still no walking though, plenty of standing and balancing and a few isolated steps but he's in no rush..

Cute story... yesterday at dinner, I asked August if he wanted a little chicken and he said "bock, bock!"- too cute! Also if we sign bath, he'll take off for the bathroom, excitedly saying bath, bath, bath...he does the same if we say shower, which I don't know how he figured out??

He also does say No more than we'd like, even though we say it in limited circumstances. i think he is just fascinated by the concept, which he completely understands. We have started signing STOP if he starts doing something dangerous or unwanted, but as soon as we say stop, he'll say stop! nonononono! Oy!

My guy is nursing 5-8 times a day or so and we are starting to think about how to transition to DH putting him down, any advice is welcome!

There is more to tell about all that I am thankful for, but that's all for now!

Congratulations Emily!!!Welcome to the world, Sarah Anne!!!

still lovin' all the super cute halloween pics!!! way to go on the mama lion costume, tracy! you two are an awesome pair! we are also trying to transition to dh putting laurel to sleep, as i generally get the most work done at night. lately i've been nursing her for 30 min and if she's not asleep by then, then dh comes in and snuggles her to sleep the rest of the way. i'm ready for the next step, though, and she isn't.

eastkygal - good luck with that transition :

skana - i'm sooo sorry about the arthritis . i wish i were closer and could work with you to find some relief. feel free to pm me if you ever want to talk about how ayurveda addresses arthritis.

so we've been seriously looking into truckee cohousing. the group has secured the land and is in the formative stages. we've been active so far in the group, but haven't had to start the investment stage yet. wed. night we'll sit down and create a spreadsheet to figure out if it could ever really be a reality. i really would love to live in truckee cohousing, but it pretty much means i'll have to pull in a bunch more money - which would mean less time with laurel and no more kids for a little while. it's really a lot to think about. if i want to be a stay at home mama, then we have to move out of tahoe/california. it's just too expensive. but i would love for laurel to be raised here in the beautiful mountains of this wonderful, liberal state. the smallest unit in cohousing is a 2bd/1ba flat, 870 square feet, going for around $350,000. the 2bd/1.5ba with office space is around $425,000. as my dh is an executive chef and can't really move up much more, his salary is pretty maxed out. he gets the 3% annual raise if he hits all his #s, which he does, but it still doesn't put us anywhere near a reasonable income for the cost of living in this area. basically, it sucks, cuz if we lived back east we would be very comfortable with his salary, but out here where the air is clear, even with my income, we're po', very po'. we'll have to seriously bust a$$ to afford 870 square feet. it's insane. : it really is. so i'm thinking that i need to hit the slots - or make some serious magic happen. think affluent thoughts for us, mamas, please!!!

Great pics everybody! I'm sorry to everyone else who dressed her baby as a lion, but I think August wins.

Anyone else besides me still AF-less? Sorry that Chasmyn and Tracy finally got the visitor... I'm certainly not missing AF but I'd gladly see her if it meant having more sleep at night. I seriously can't believe it has been two years.
yep, still very AF-less here. and i had 2 m/c before laurel stuck in there, so i've only really had 2 cycles since march of '04. as much as i enjoy not having to deal with it, i'm starting to think i should begin inducing the flow, just for the cleansing out factor. i've actually been thinking about this for months, and as you can see i haven't really done anything about it.

August is soooo cuuute

as you know!!

I, of course, have had AF for quite a while but they're like 40-50-60 days apart..approaching that fun next stage of life...

ohh the hot flashes I got so soaking the other night dh thought I peed the bed. ..I'm like, noooo it's just meeeee

Anyway, Nathanael, let's see, where is he at? Well, he can now get to sitting from laying on the floor. He got his flu shot today (he's high risk category so we get it done). We had his ears cleaned today (which he HATED) so that we can go for yet another hearing screening to see just what he can hear. He's failed 3x, only hearing the higher pitches. Since he has horribly narrow canals and makes extra wax, it gets to be quite a problem and leads to a lot of delays. He still only babbles but says dada in jibberish and yet when daddy comes in the room he says "da DAH". So keewt.

Emily -- so glad to hear about your happy, healthy birth. Sarah Anne is blessed to have you as her mom. Enjoy your togetherness and we will await photos of your new arrival!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words. I'm hanging in there and hoping for the best. Will keep you posted.

About AF: I got mine the day after Tova turned 13 months, then not again for five weeks, so not sure how regular it's going to be. Can't say I was very pleased to see it return ...

Happy Monday, Mamas!

I especially like the one of him stealing my smoothie from my desk and chugging it down... (the cup was empty though). He's so funny.

: Yay Emily!!!! : So happy to hear that you had a great labor & birth! I love the name Sarah. . .always have. My favorite song in the 80's was Sara by Starship : I will be looking forward to reading more details about your sweet daughter. Hugs to big brother also!

Wow! You all that haven't had your Af or just getting it is LUCKY! I have had mine since C was 4 mos. (same with eldest too). I think that I'm going to see my CNM about it though. I have my "moon" 3 weeks on, 1 week off. Sort of irregularly and I have pretty bad cramps. Not enjoying the AF, I must say. I'm a bit overweight (about 35 lbs.) so maybe that is causing some probs. Anyone know about this?

I love, love the pics that everyone is posting! Yes, we all reproduce well!

Emily -- YAY YAY YAY! I look forward to the birth story. =)

Aeriane--I went to a Mormon church service and got reprimanded for taking a photo. Oops. They could tell I didn't belong.

Katie -- Ack. A is growing up. She looks sooo mature compared to just a few months ago.

Skana -- I am sorry you're having a rough time with health. An idea for your daughter and the diaper changes is to give her a book or a musical toy to play with; this is the only way we can change diapers without lots of hoots and hollers from the baby.

Plus it's funny to watch her reading a book while DH changes her diaper. It's like she's saying, "okay, servant, do what you have to do while I'm busy."

A no-sugar diet might help your arthritis.

All ---

Sorry to be out of touch. I am behind on posts and might not get caught up. I've been busy with work -- finally decided to calm down about my workload and just do what I can -- and this and that.

I am still fighting an annoying eczema-like rash that persists on my face -- no photos from me for a while!! -- and it's a real pain to go around looking like a cheetah with red spots on my cheeks.

The good news is that I started to eat a whole foods diet, take flax oil every day and am eating a very alkaline diet and things are turning around. It's taking longer than it normally does to heal. Also, no sugar!! My big treat now is warm millet drizzled with butter and sprinkled with garlic powder. Dee-lish.

I feel superb INSIDE. It's like I have this hum of energy I've not had before. Now if the OUTSIDE would catch up with the inside, I'd be a happy camper.

I've also started to eat miso soup. Yum!!

Meanwhile, we're getting little rest because O is teething. I go to bed about 8 or 9 and O is up 2-4 x per night with teething pain. WHY can't they make the medicine LAST 12 hours?? It only lasts 8, so that means she is up about 2 am if she goes to sleep about 7. : : : :

Good gravy, how many more teeth can she have to get? I think she has 18...they get 32, right?

Talking is still the same...She learns words as fast as we teach them. At the Mormon church, I taught her 'knee.' And she said 'me'. So she pointed to my knees, my sister's knees and then started to run after strangers to point at THEIR knees. She was quite excited about knees.

I wrote about our experience in church this past week. Church is like a foreign country to me,and it suddenly struck me as a 'wow' that the people around me probably thought I was going to h-ell or that something bad would happen because I don't believe the same stuff they do. It got me thinking: http://totville.com/babyblog/?cat=5
