I think I've found my system

Have you folks seen this?
Lifehacking Your Grocery List

I think I'm going to try this. I think I can handle doing just a few cards at a time and updating periodically. I *love* the idea of getting to the point where I never have to really "meal plan" again... just pull the cards that sound appealing or will work for the week. All the thinking will have already been done. And I think this system will totally jive with folks who assign a meal type to each day of the week, those who do rotations, etc. Wish me luck on this, everyone, because I really, really hate to meal plan.

I used to do a card system kind of like that. It was really nice and easy.

Benjis'mom, I wonder why you stopped. I'm still plugging away with my cards. I've also made a daily schedule of breakfast foods. I think it may still need some tweaking, however. As far as dinners go, well... let's just say that my meal planning for dinners definitely need more tweaking.

This looks like a good idea. Tell us how it goes!

When it's time to make a meal, pull out the receipt and mark down the actual cost of the grocery items already on the card. Total them up and divide by the number of people who eat it. This gives you a total meal cost and a per person cost regardless of what the serving sizes are on any packaging
Whoa! I would be the "queen of organization" if I got to that level!!! I like the concept of having cards for ideas of what to make for a meal and the ingredients. I always forget about some really good recipes when my brain is:

this sounds awesome. All this week I've been thinking, "we have nothing to eat" and yet there is food everywhere, just nothing that goes together. And I feel like I'm always at the grocery store, and the bill is huge, and it's gone in a couple days. I'm going to try this...sounds so easy once it gets going!

Well, I know I'm late with this, but my DH is in charge of cooking now and he's not organized at all so he doesn't use the cards. He doesn't even think about what to cook until it's time to eat most of the time. But I always loved my card system. But I'm a WOHM and he's a SAHD so he does it his way now.

So, how's it been working for you?
