Is anyone else going to buy Halloween stuff for next year?

We already have a plan for next year. I saved dd's lion costume from when she was two and ds will wear it. dd wants to be a witch or princess, so I think we will do an Oz theme.

I'm not up to sewing the costume (with all the materials eep on the price!) so we will try to pick something up now. I was at Kmart a day before Halloween and they were already 40% off. So I'll hit the party stores and see what we can find.

Last year I got dd a few costumes after Halloween that made great dress up clothes all year for about $4 an outfit.

Actually DD's costume this year was a 2T so she should be able to wear it next year also.

Going to? It's already done LOL.

I hit the after halloween sales at 9am yesterday. A few years ago I bought some of that dress up stuff at halloween sales, this year since we are finally settled into a house I wanted decorations and we have zero halloween decorations. With the kids getting older I see them getting more into decorating the house for each holiday, but I can't afford to pay the full price for this stuff (and some of it isn't worth that), so I am doing the after-holiday stuff.

I realized last year that the after halloween sales go fast - they really want that stuff out of htere to make way for the xmas stuff, so you can't wait a week and go looking - which is why I was out yesterday. I got a lot of christmas stuff on sale last year, so I'm excited to use it, my plan this year is to decorate and make note of what I feel we need to decorate and then at the after sales look for those things. (Meaning if we felt we needed a wreath for this door or lights for this tree, etc)

I'm pretty happy with what I got. I spent $100 total (more than I really should have spent) and got one of the big metal haunted houses they had at Joanns, the big metal pumpkin from them too, some purple lights, some electric candles shaped like ghosts and some with some spider and mummy designs, two trick or treat door hangings, a Happy Halloween doormat, a huge halloween cookie cutter bucket, some foam stickies for fun halloween crafts next year, some ceramic candle holders, some black and pumpkin garland, a couple pumpkin picture frames (my mom loves that stuff - so I got one for her), some little pumpkin candles and those hanging jackolantern tealight candle holders that hang on shepards hooks for outside. Actually I'm kinda debating going back and getting more of those because I think I'd like to have the shepards hooks for decorating for other holidays too I could make things to hang from them and they were only like $1.25 each.

I didn't go for the costumes because we have a lot of that stuff and I'm thinking next year I'm going to make their costumes. I was debating buying the fabric now but I don't know what they'll want to be and the actual patterns were not on sale (I would have bought some patterns)

Seems like each year I'll pick a holiday to fill out decoration-wise -last year whas christmas, this year was halloween, maybe next year I'll do the fourth of july or easter

We're extra-frugal and don't buy Halloween stuff ever.

Hey, I would have been out there but I was sick!

I stopped myself ;)

I started to pick up some bubble rings and cute finger puppets at the grocery store. They were on sale for 75 cents each. I was going to buy them to give to the kids school for the Fall Bazaar and Halloween party to use as prizes for games for next year.

but I decided to put them back because I decided I could better use the money for baking supplies for Christmas presents. The school has plenty of prizes as it is and a lot is donated. I'm happy to contribute but there are other ways.

Even if I buy the stuff next fall and end up paying full price, it won't be that much.

I only saved a little bit of money but it's something. Like I said it can go for the stuff to make Christmas presents.

CVS had their costumes marked off 90%. We don't celebrate Halloween but for $1.49, some of these will be awesome for a dress-up trunk for Christmas.

What was nice about the CVS sale was that they marked all their autumn stuff off at 75% off. So all sorts of nice Thanksgiving decor was dirt cheap.

The candy was all 75% off, too. I bought lots and some of it can be used for cookie baking come Thanksgiving/Christmas.

There's no way I'd buy a costume for either of my kids a year in advance! Only if it could be worn normally for dress-up. Although my kids have planned what they want to be next year, they've done that EVERY year, and never want to be the same thing a whole year later I would like to get some lights (like a string of orange lights) for our walkway, so I might swing by CVS today and see if they have any! Our target empties when things even go to 50% off.

I bought treat bags at half price (the little ones for giving out treats) since we give out several things per kid. Our neighborhood is kind of lame in that only a couple of houses per block give out treats so we try to be generous. I might check back to see if there are any dress-up wings left. I saw them yesterday and realized they might be nice for a gift for my niece.
