Does anybody actually LIKE liver?

I don't like the taste (or the smell) of liver, but I try to eat it at least once a week because I know it's so healthy. I've completely given up (for now anyway) on offering it to my family, so I usually prepare liver for lunch one day a week. The only kosher liver I'm able to buy around here is frozen chicken livers in 8oz packages, and I eat 1 or 2 boxes a week. Well, I don't eat the cardboard box or the plastic bag, but YKWIM.

I'm able to make it palatable, but I don't really ENJOY it. Today I made it into a stir-fry with fresh ginger, onions, garlic, and carrots, plus chicken broth, tamari, leftover cooked rice, and a little hot sauce. I would have found the stir-fry a lot more tasty without the liver!

No, not really.

I like the taste but can't really get over what is. Not the organ meat thing, but the actual function of a liver. So I only eat it once in awhile.

I reallylike calf's liver, but I don't have any experience with chicken livers. If they taste similar, here is how I cook it:
1) skewered and grilled, salted and eaten hot with pita and mustard
2) sauted with melted onions and garlic, tomato paste and allspice, eaten over basmati rice
Those are the best, but I also like it floured and fried, with mashed potatoes.

yup. lightly cooked with fried onions and bacon was a favourite as a child. With mashed potatoes on the side.

I do like liver and onions. Very good.

For the kids I take beef liver and puree it raw with a bit of water and then freeze it into the ice cube tray. Then I add one cube to soup or rice when cooking.

Very much so. But only if it's been soaked in lemon or lime juice on the counter for several hours before cooking. I especially like it with onions. I'll usually "cheat" and have perogies with it (I only have storebought because I haven't gotten around to making any in a while) and I dip everything in sour cream

:Puke I've been trying to eat liver for over two years now. I just can't do it. I've tried chicken and beef liver, and I've also tried prepared chopped chicken liver from Whole Foods. I figured if it was professionally prepared I could eat it. Nope. I loathe the stuff and cannot get it down. Part of it is psychological, but I also just hate the taste. I wish I could get over it, though.

It's funn ythat I saw this post - I just made liver for the first time for lunch for me and my daughter. It's not *awful*, but it tastes bizarre!

I love chicken and poultry livers but hate all other livers. Chopped liver and onions are so yum!

meh. i love the giblet gravy that my grandma always used to make for thanksgiving, but i cooked beef liver last week for the first time and...it's kinda yucko! i was able to eat some of it but it just isn't that appetizing.

Love it! With mushrooms & onions or rice & stewed tomatoes. Also with ketchup, though I haven't made any NT ketchup yet.

Impossible (to eat) Liver Pie

I tried mixing liver with ground beef and doing an impossible cheeseburger pie type thing (if you like impossible pies like my dh, you don't have to use bisquick--just use 1 c flour, 1 c milk, 1/2 t salt, and 2 eggs--I did it on the fly and didn't soak, but I would imagine it would be fine (and of course healthier) soaked).

I am sad to say that it still tasted like liver and made me want to puke. Sooooo sad to see the healthy food wasted, but I don't see how it will get eaten.

I think we are having burgers for dinner...

Me too! Maybe I should make giblet gravy when we have mashed potatoes. Never knew how healthy it was!

A meat grinder is my best friend. If you grind organ meats with some muscle meat, and heavily spice it, you can make an excellent sausage patty.

I am not fond of liver on its own though. DD and DH seem to like it just fine.

I love chicken liver cooked in soy sauce, ginger juice and a touch of honey. Yum and the kids love it too.

I would eat liver everyday if I could have calf liver liver like Grandma used to make when I was a kid. Flour breaded and fried and (remember I was a kid) with catsup. But I haven't actually gotten the nerve to try to cook it on my own. And Grandma's gone now, so I can't beg her to fix it anymore.

I love liver. I just do. Panfried with onions...YUM!

I am iffy about it.... I think its one of the most powerful foods you can eat. I usually eat it raw so that I do not have to taste it... when you eat it raw and swallow it there is nothing but a slight "smoky " taste. I can say that i don't like the taste of it if its over cooked....... I think the taste is aall in the preparation. I have cooked it various ways and sometimes i dont like, and sometimes i do depending. Also.... the older it is, the more it oxidizes and has that "livery" taste. Really fresh liver doesnt have that livery taste . I think because liver is slightly bitter, it needs to be fried with some kind of flour. My only concern with liver though is its high protein to fat ratio. Its like 4:1 protein to fat which means it shouldn't be a mainstay in your diet, IMO.
