State BF Laws for Infants only?

I was reading a few of the state laws/rights to BF on the LLL site and many of them mention "infants". The way the law is written makes it seem as though BFing a toddler would not fall under these laws/rights to BF in public.

Anyone have any info on this?

For example, a state might have the law about indecent exposure and then say that there is an exception to breastfeeding infants. But what about toddlers? Fortunately some states say child. And some states don't clarify. Some say baby, and it would be up for debate as to what a "baby" is.

Yikes...I never realized this. Now if only we could get the wording changed to child.

It's a shame would should even have to have these laws. Makes something natural feel regulated...ugh!

I know tenessee has a law that states a child 12 months and under in it. I wrote everybody I could to get it changed, but got the big brush off. Now I boycott Tenessee, I live in North Mississippi so I used to go to the Memphis Airport so now I drive to birmingham

Yup. :. Nice to know my years of letter-writing made it worse. If I could get my 4 yr old to set still in public long enough to nurse (he's just a bedtime guy) I'd sit on the damn Capitol steps & make a farking point.

The 12 months and under thing is TOTALLY ridiculous.

Perfect example - preemies. They need the breastmilk even more than healthy full-term babies. Would the law go by their actual age, or adjusted age?

Probably actual age, since that is their technical age and according to their birth certificate.
