Poopies

Ladies, how often do your bf babies poop?
Aria used to go every day. Now we are down to every 3-5 days and she seems uncomfortable!!! I don't see how a bf baby can be constipated and her stool is not hard at all, just much less reoccurring. And the more days in between her pooping the worse she sleeps. She sleeps best the night she did go...help. Is this normal?

nak -- Cleo goes 3 - 5 times per day, ranging from mustard yellow to brown to fluorescent green, all w/ curds. I keep expecting it to slow down, but she's very regular. I hear your situation is normal, but I thought it was a myth!

Yeah, normal. Some EBF babies only go once a week. Have you tried drinking more water? This might help things move along in your little one.

Liam goes everywhere from 3-10 days. A nice change from when he used to go every time he ate.

Nate seems to be transitioning to less often, and his poop is less liquidy too. I think it's just his gutt maturing, since my diet hasn't changed!

Erin & Cleo must be on the same schedule! Erin always ALWAYS spends about 1/2 hour squirming & pooping when she's waking up in the morning. Weird...

Hi!

Gingi goes every other day on average, and has since she was born . When she reaches the third or fourth day without going, I notice she seems uncomfortable at times.

At that point I do what Sears (and my nurse/girlfriend, and pediatrician) suggests: sterilize with alcohol a thermometer, put some babyoil on it, and insert it into the rectum as if taking a temp (i.e. very shallow). In fact, it is a good way to practice doing a temp, and seeing what your girl's normal temp is. If you slightly depress it towards the surface she is lying on, that stimulates a poop oftentimes. Warning: Don't forget to have a diaper underneath her, and more handy, because more can follow! If nothing occurs, I figure she's doing OK and leave it all alone for another day.

I don't really feel as if it is necessary, but I figure it might make her a little more comfortable to let it all out!

Liz

Nathan takes TERRIBLE naps when he hasnt pooped. It is usually 2-3 days but last week he pooped twice on sunday and then not again til friday!
He is very gassy though. Smelly gassy :yuck and sometimes leaves a streak

Naps on weds and thurs were 20-30 mins off and on all day. :

I agree! At 1-2 weeks old Nathan would go immediately aftewards if not during!
