Another waterbirth question

Just wondering if everyone DID get a pool? I have a large garden tub, think it would work? Or, is bigger definately better? Are those pools really comfortable? It seems you couldn't really lean back on it...? Is it sturdier than I give it credit for?
TIA!

I used the ocean reef inflatable pool and it was perfect. Plenty sturdy. I actually was HANGING over the side of it during contractions and it was fine

Yes, the fishy pools are good for leaning over since they have 6" wide sides. Very comfy. You can't lean over an Aqua Doula or something with a hard, thin side.

I gave birth in my garden tub, it worked well for me.

Oh yeah those pools are very sturdy. With my pushing against the side and my mw and assitant and dh leaning against it, it didn't give at all. I would bet the sides are a good 6 inches deep. And its way more comfortable than a hard tub. You also have ALOT more room to move around. My dh is really big and doesn't fit in our garden tub let alone with me in there.

A friend of mine gave bith in her garden tub because once she got in she couldn't get back out

I got one but I don't have a garden tub. We just have a regular bath tub and when I'm in labor, I feel closed in.

Same here AND my mw had her knee against one side leaning over to catch my dd. Mw had a bruise on her knee the next day. So yeah...they are sturdy!

we bought one form this place www.birthpoolinabox.co.uk last weekend we did a trial run on it and it was VERY sturdy! i was very surprised for it being a "blow up" pool! i agree that the sides had to be 6 inches in width at least and the plastic is a very good sturdy plastic, not the thin plastic you find on your children's blow up pools...etc. i am completely confident i wil be able to hang over the sides and have MW or dh pushing or hanging off the sides as well and not worry of it bursting.

i have a very large bathtub and the only reason we decided on a birthpool is that my dh could really get in the birthpool with me and be comfortiable, plsu my own options of positions increased dramatically with the birth pool over the tub. if it was just me and only i wanted to catch the baby, i wouldn't mind birthing in a tub, but since dh wants to be so involved the birth pool was a much beter choice for us. (and i didn't realize this until we set it up, but the birth pool has a 3 inch thick "bubble floor" making it very comfortiable and cushy! so when i'm on hands and knees it is GREAT cushioning from the floor underneath! i don't have to worry of putting comforters under the pool to cushion my knees for me!)

I've used my garden tub twice and I am 5'9".

I hosted a Blessingway last night and we had this very discussion. One of the gals had rented that big aquadoula and didn't like it because it was too big and she couldn't stay grounded and felt she was floating away and birthed her first two on land. She had her third in her garden tub.

Another gal birthed at a birth center with one large tub/pool and one garden size. She wanted the smaller but the MW insisted she would wat the bigger one - she felt lost and too boyant in the bigger one and I think she ended up birthing on land.

Where do you get it/how much is it?

I've got a gentle birth pool coming (www.waterbirth.com)

I worry now that it will be too big/hard. I plan on setting it up before hand to try some positions out--although I think that during Labor no matter how much I plan I will instinctively do whatever position 'works' ya know?

I am so glad I didn't spend 200+ dollars for something I would have been uncomfortable in.
the fishy pool was awesome!
I pushed ds out on my hands and knees, hanging over the side and was comfortable (well, as comfortable as you can be during pushing )
