Crafty mamas...

Anyone making anything for the baby/babies? For some reason, I've been wanting to work with yarn this fall and I've crocheted a hat and sleep sacque, a sweater for DS, and a few wool soakers for each of them. I decided it was time to learn to knit better too, so I'm working on a pair of socks for the baby! I am almost done with my first sock ever, and it looks pretty bad in places! It won't win a blue ribbon at the fair, but I made it and it was hard but I kept going anyway! I'm bound and determined to learn to knit better and wanted to just work on small stuff for now (like hats, mittens and socks) because although they might be a little complicated, I know I can finish them faster than, say, a sweater for me or a big blanket.

I also made two moby-style wraps, borrowed my friend's serger.

We've each done several projects; some we did while we were still TTC, but most we've done since we conceived. I painted a small wooden chest that sits beside the rocking chair and doubles as a table, letters that spell out the baby's name and will hang on the wall, a toddler-sized rocking chair, a picture frame, and some other decorations for the baby's room. (We're planning to co-sleep, so the nursery is pretty much a place for toys, clothes, and the changing table, but when he wants a bed, this is where it will be.) I also knitted a small blanket and will probably do one more knitted project before he comes. Julieanne has knitted four pairs of socks, a wool soaker, and a tiny hat. We just found several wool sweaters at Goodwill tonight; she's going to make some diaper covers with those. I know she has a few more projects planned, but I'm not sure exactly what they are.

Since we went TV free, we've been doing a LOT of crafting.

Congratulations on finishing your first knitted sock! So far, I've stuck to easier projects, but I'm feeling inspired by some super cute baby things I've seen lately. Hopefully I will be able to finish something more adventurous than my usual scarves before the baby is here!

Well, I sew and quilt and mess around with most other crafty type things. So I am making a quilt for this baby, and a matching one for baby's new cousin that was born yesterday. I am also going to make some frog beanbags filled with rice that I can heat up in the microwave and give to ds and slide in next to baby to keep them warm while the car warms up or when we go out for walks. Other than that, I told my friend Lisa I would make her a quilt for her baby (due end of Dec) and I just finished a quilt for my friend Kym (also due end of Dec) and I'd like to make one for my friend Kris who is due in March, so I'm sewing and quilting like mad around here. But its fun, and ds will sometimes play happily in the basement for 30 min at a stretch, so its a nice time for both of us.

Right now I'm busy crafting Christmas gifts, but I plan on starting on baby stuff in January. I plan on making a dragonfly mobile similar to the butterfly one I made when I was pregnant with dd. I want to make some new curtains for the new baby and dds bedroom, but the fabric is expensive. I also would love to learn how to knit and start on some of that. I don't know what else though. I like the bean bag frog idea, I think I will make one of those for dd, I googled it and found a pattern.

I've been having so much fun making things for this baby! So far I've knitted him a cardigan, and a pair of booties- and am planning on knitting a little hat or two, and some diaper covers.
I have also sewn him a little kimono jacket, and am working on some little flannel pants.

Hi,

I love to knit, cross stitch, sew etc... Unfortunately time is usually my enemy.

My daughter is turning 7 tomorrow and she has been asking to learn how to knit, so for her birthday I am getting her some knitting stuff and will teach her. She says she wants to make something for the baby first thing.

When I was shopping for her I found this cute little knitting pattern book called something like "one skein baby projects". It has adorable little baby projects that can all be made quickly with one skein of yarn. So I decided that was right up my alley! LOL And I am just about done with a baby blanket from that book.

It is one skein of very chunky yarn - but very soft "baby" yarn. And it is knit on size 19 needles. These are the biggest needles I have ever used. LOL The gauge is very loose and it certainly won't be a receving blanket or anything, but I can drape it over the baby in a car seat or put the baby on it on the floor, etc.. And it did knit up super fast.

I think I might do a hat/booties set from this book next...

I'm cross stitching a birth record just like I did for all the other kids. With DD3 I had a lot more time on my hands (I was on bedrest for three weeks...you can get a LOT of stitching done in 3 weeks!) and so I made an extra design, an "angel in waiting." I was really proud of it, and the nurses at the hospital kept coming in to see how much I'd gotten done that day.

Ooh, sarah I was just going to make up the frog pattern. Where did you find a pattern?

Also could you post a pic of your bug mobile? It sounds really cute. I was thinking of making some kind of little creatures or mobile to hang above our change table.

I think we should deinitely have a "craft show" right before the babes come. What fun!

I've made some pants, hats, booties, and will get around to a sweater after Christmas when I have more time.

Right now I'm working on some booties. I am not sure how much time I'll have to do anything else but I found a fantastic yarn store that I hope to visit more often.

I think a craft show would be great. Let's do it soon so we can inspire each other!

I have made NOTHING for this baby. I did some diapers, quilts, burp clothes,
and toys for the first babe... going to reuse all that stuff of course. I just have not been inspired, or had the time. Still unpacking for the move. I do think I did a good job of making toys and stuff until now. After this baby outgrows the clothes I am going to make a memory quilt.
Maybe once we unpack and I can actually get the sewing machine out....

love to hear what everybody else is doing.

I knit a blanket, striped and backed in fabric. I knit a wrap cardigan as well but gave it to friends so I'll make another for us soon. I bought fabric to make a crib skirt and pillows for our rocking chair, just waiting for the crib to get here. I think that's it so far - I might try some booties next but haven't found a pattern I like.
