Reading to Children - Page 3

I wouldn't read '1984' to a child (as in before they are 12 yr old and maybe not even then) the storyline freaks ME out as an adult (too close to reality!) and I wouldn't put that on my kid.

However we've been reading chapter books to my DS1 since he was too tiny to understand anything etc perhaps that his mama and dad love him. : (Now his little brother hangs out "listening" with us)

He his now six, some of our books this year have been:

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh
The Hobbit
Just about everything by Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, The Witches, Danny the Champion of the World, Matilda etc.)
The Wizard of Oz
The Chronicles of Narnia
The Borrowers
Peter Pan
Right now we are re-reading Charlotte's Web and I am pre-reading (since it's a new book I know nothing about) Peter and the Shadow Thieves which looks like it's going to be the next one added to our nightly ritual.

Read to the rugrats, its good for their imaginations to grow.

(Another tv-free childhood here!)
