Tub grime

This is the first time I've ever had a fiberglass tub/shower. We just moved into this house in June and the shower rapidly became grimy-looking. I don't know what to do to clean it so it actually looks clean. My mom (who owns a kitchen/bath company) told me to avoid all particulate cleaners (like comet and including soft scrub and other "no scratch" cleaners) because they scratch the surface of the fiberglass, making it look worse and worse. I'm wondering if baking soda is also scratching the fiberglass? I need some help because my shower is looking gross and it's so embarrassing, even if my husband and I are the only ones that see it!

Is it a new house? If not then the previous owners/tenants probably used a particulate cleanser already. Baking soda or Bon Ami don't scratch fiberglass IME, and that is what I'd use. The house I live in has a fiberglass shower and it was really nasty looking when we moved in and the *only* thing that removed the discolorations was a pumice stone, followed by sand paper (it was either that or grey/brown areas everywhere and have it refinished/replaced) and then keeping up with the cleaning so it doesn't build up. I hate my fiberglass shower, but I have had good luck keeping up with it with Bon Ami or baking soda.

We have a fiberglass shower/tub all in one unit, and occasionally it looks really bad. I like to fill the tub up with cold water and add about a tablespoon, maybe a little less, of tea-tree oil and let it soak for a couple hours. usually then I just empty the water out and the grime easily is wiped away with a cloth without too much hard scrubbing. It really shines when I'm done!

I discovered that the magic eraser works on our fiberglass tub in our rental apt. Yes, I've looked into it, and I don't believe that it (the magic eraser) is toxic or harmful when used as directed.
