well I had my lactivism moment on Friday.
: I spent my lunch half hour on the phone with my boys Dr. trying to get a note for the daycare *delaying* his vax (until I could get a chance to notarize the exemption...whole other story) and then somehow myself and a coworker ended up on the subject of formula. she is young (17) and she asked if I breastfed and I told her "yes I do" and she asked why I didn't give formula...like what makes breastmilk *better*.
I said this: "breastmilk isn't better its just what babies are supposed to eat. the formula manufacterers tried to make formula as close to breastmilk as they could get it but there is sooo much that we don't even know about breastmilk, much less finding a chemical equivalent...not to mention that formula is basically a pain in the rear...I've done both and believe me I'll deal with the pump to continue nursing. formula is substandard, complicated and inconvenient" then I realized there were about 5 other people in the break room, went all red and said "sorry but breastfeeding is something I believe very strongly in" and every one of the people said "that's ok, no problem" and the girl was thinking about it. who knows maybe when she has her first baby she will look back and think "until Jami talked to me about it I had no idea the difference between formula and breastmilk" or at least she will try to breastfeed.
