What's on your Front Door Windows?

We have two uncovered slender vertical windows on each side of our front door and are trying to figure out the nicest way to prevent people from being able to see inside of our house. While I'd prefer something opaque or something like this we do not have a peep hole in the door so it would probably be safer and more practical to find something that would allow us to see who's at the door.

So, what do you use?

Oh, that is an interesting thought. We have an oval window in the center of our front door. I have always wanted to get one of those stick on's in a frosted glass pattern that I could cut to shape. BUT- I never thought about the no-peep hole issue. Hmmm.... that does create a problem. I will have to see if I can see people at the front door from other windows in the house. From the website you posted, I llike the stain glass version that you like, the frosted glass, and the frosted glass that is in squares.

We used to live in a house with a door like you describe. The windows almost went the whole length of the door. I made a curtain with a curtain rod at the top and bottom. It was not entirely opaque, but was white with some eyelet holes, if I remember right. So if someone was knocking on the door at night (the light was indoors) they could see shadows of if someone was coming to answer the door. And the curtain had enough give that I could peek out. But you could certainly use whatever pretty opaque fabric you like, too

I have two inch blinds on mine. I can peek out.

I have one long window with nothing, but it faces my carport area, so it doesn't bug me.

You can install a peephole cheaply. It just involves some drilling and a kit from the hardware store. Then you could use whatever you'd like.

We don't really care if people can see into our house, but you could cut the window covering to leave a clear space.

Acrylic glass paint. I think it's called Gallery Glass? Don't remember, but i've used that on weird shaped windows. I kinda went nuts and did a whole window in flowers once It can be removed with water and a little elbow grease, if you use it then change your mind at a later date.

At once house we installed curtains.

But my favorite was using the Gallery Glass from the craft store. I came up wtih a design and did a faux stained glass in the windows. It took forever to do, but people seriously thought we had installed real stained glass.

That vinyl product is available at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. We use it for bathroom windows - privacy with no curtains!

And for the front door windows, well... let the neighbors look if they want to!

Our door is like that and the windows are not covered. The way the house is layed out you can see into the foyer but not really anything else so it doesn't bother me.

We use the vinyl stuff and we bought it at home depot. I aways thought it wasa little silly until we started to get the "save the wolves" and other petittion people coming to our door in the evening. They didn't just ring the door bell but would ring the bell and then shove their face up to the window and look in. If you position ouself just right you can see up stairs and also into our kitchen. It just gave me the willies!

Oh and if I want to know who is at my door I just look out a different window!

I use the spray paint stuff previous posters mentioned. It sprays on sorta white and when it dries it looks frosty.

My friend uses that for her front windows and for the windows on either side of her door, and it looks very good. Far better than I would have expected from looking at the roll before she put it up.

I'm lucky, my stepfather actually makes stained glass, so he made me a couple simple stained glass hangings to put in front of our windows.

Our 12 front door panes go all the way down, and the previous owner painted a nice design using simple "stained glass" craft paint--part of the design is done with a clear type that has a texture that makes it hard to see.

It is nice and simple, doesn't need laundered or get pulled on or collect dust--and the light still comes through nicely. Actually the kids did peel some of it off and I like it well enough to try to replace it.

I have the same thing & when we moved in there were semi sheer curtains in place. I am thinking of stringing some nice beads that look like bone or antique bronze & string them up & hang them fairly close together & secure at both top & bottom. Been thinking about this today actually, finally time to do it.. this thread must be a sign Thanks

You could put some sheer fabric on two tension rods, one at he bottom and one at the top. Then when someone is at the door you just slide the curtain over a little and look out and then slide it back.
