birth control options?

my ds is 8 months and we were using FAM before (oops, got a little lazy...), but what to use now? i hate condoms, and i haven't gotten a period yet, but can't get comfortable with the idea of only checking cervical fluid. oh, and i don't have a doc and don't need a pap, so i would rather not shell out tons of cash just to get fitted for something. am bf. we will start trying again in march of 2008, if we can stand to wait!

I almost replied to your post yesterday but decided against it. Since no one else has responded I'll throw in my .02.

Since breastfeeding = no chemical/hormonal birth control options
AND
you don't like condoms
AND
You don't want to check your CM
AND
you don't want to visit the dr to be fitted for something (diaphram?)

The only thing I can think of is to visit Planned Parenthood. I know they are controversial. You pay on a sliding scale and they will know what your options are. I've gone to PP once and would absolutely go again if the need arose.

Hope this helps bumb your post up and generates more responses. Other than PP I'm tapped for ideas

Thanks. I don't mind checking all the stuff, I do it anyway, I was just interested in some other backup options, and didn't know what other people in my position do. Really, natural family planning stuff is all there is for me, as I won't do hormones or even spermicide (because I think it is yucky and creepy) and I didn't know if there were other good barrier methods, or other natural planning options.

I have an IUD in place a copper one with no hormones and I've found that the best option for me. I don't even know its there and it has no effect on breastfeeding.
