Got in trouble today

Thread Starter
I'm on an OB rotation right now for my BSN and I was asked to help with a RIC today. I declined on ethical grounds and my preceptor "told on me" to my instructor. Now my instructor says that if I continue to refuse to participate, then I may be removed from the rotation and have to repeat the course. I am set to graduate on December 17th and am about to my pants at the though of having to repeat a course and graduate next spring. I seriously don't want to participate and will continue to refuse, but I think they are just trying to bully me and can't remove me from the course for this reason.

I have so much respect for you.
Everytime someone does this it sends such a loud message. You need to present them with a letter from a lawyer. They can't get away with this. Maybe Dave can help here. Please pm him at: Dave2GA

You could check your student handbook it might have something about this sort of thing.

You should download the "Conscientious Objector" pamphlet from the D. O. C. website http://www.doctorsopposingcircumcisi...pdf/co7-05.pdf
It is a brilliant presentation of the modern day rights of medical personnel,
or contact "Nurses for the Rights of the Child".

good for you for standing up for the rights of defenseless babies. I wish I could tell you what higher authorities to go to, but I honestly have no idea. I hope everything works out.

: Thank you so much for making a strong stand I don't think they can prevent you from graduating either from what the pps have said :

love and peace.

Good for you! That should not be a required part of your job or coursework!! RIC isn't done where I live and it's been so long since I've lived in the U.S. that the concept seems so foreign to me now. If more people like you stand strong it can really make a difference!

I hope you can get some good legal counsel because I can't imagine that you would be forced to assist a RIC.

I emailed my clinical instructor last night with information about circumcision and the organization Nurses for the Rights of the Child. I also told her that there are two FT nurses that refuse to participate in the procedure as well at this particular site. She said she will discuss this matter with the course coordinator (her boss) and get back to me at clinical today. I'll give you guys an update this evening.

Thanks for all your support

You should be so proud of yourself...

Thanks for standing up and sending the message that RIC is not tolerated and saying what so babies would say if they could!!

Good work, mamanurse.
I hope everything goes well.

And I hope that more nurses (and doctors) follow your lead.
