omigod jenn!

I can't believe they actually threatened you with having to repeat the course. Did any one else refuse to participate? Good for you for standing up for what you believe. I am anxiously awaiting your reply.

: You rock, Mama! Being asked to participate in genital mutilation on a helpless babe I could NEVER do it.

You rock! I doubt they can make you retake the whole course, I mean you'll just refuse next time so what's the point? right

OMG!!! 12 hour shifts are the epitome of evil!!!

The nurse who is opposed to circ (and participating in any way) spoke to my clinical instructor today and advocated for me. My clinical instructor said that it is ok that I refused to participate, but that I should have notified her of my "preferences" at the start of the course and they would have reassigned me: They are going to let me continue on with the course, but a note went into my file about my "adversarial negative attitude regarding routine newborn procedures." I'm now going to have to move quickly to get that note removed from my file, as future employers can see it.

I'm using the argument that they would not have made a stink about me refusing to participate in an abortion. At least, I think that's the road I'm going to go down. Any ideas on what I should do?

I also checked my school policy and there is no mention of anything like this.

This infuriates me! I'd finish the course and then threaten to sue them if that note doesn't get removed! PM Dave, ask him for his legal advice in this matter, he's an attorney and is sure to give you something helpful!

Good luck honey and kudos for you!!

My mom was a Rn 20 years ago. When her OB or peds rot. , can't remember which, came around she had to assist with a RIC, not comfortable she 'followed orders'. She left 1 second into it and refused to ever do one again. She was able to graduate with some fighting, but I would stand my ground too. They tried to get her to do it again because she did not complete the proccedure but she fought it and won.

When she had my brother three years later he was left intact and she was realieved that I did the same. She still is horrified and disgusted by the practice and she was/is pretty mainstream.

Good for you, mama! I can't believe they threatened to remove you. Hooray for you standing up for your rights and the babies'!!

I think if they won't take the letter out right away you should present your story a No Circ organization, maybe they can help publicize it and spread the word!!
