I'm just curious. All of the lay midwifes in our area are in the rural areas and a good hour away. I still want a homebirth but it sure makes going to apt.s interesting?

When DD was born they were forty minutes away. Now we've moved and they are closer an hour, maybe a bit more.

Mine was about 2hr15min away. We went to her though, rather than her coming here because she can't be this far out if she has another mom start labor.

about 10 minutres, which was good because my last labor was less than
3 hrs! from first ctrx to baby....
I called her at 130am, told her "pretty soon". She came in 20 minutes
baby was born at 248am. My doula was also only 10 minutes away.

In midday traffic, my mw was about 45 minutes, door to door. If she had had to come here during rush hour, the time would probably have been about doulbe that. In theory, with no traffic, it should only be about 30 minutes, but the roads around here (Atlanta) offer no guarantees. The night I was in labor, it took her nearly an hour to get here because there was a wreck! At 4:30 am or so!

20 minutes if she's in the office, 30 minutes if she's at home...

My mw is a solid 3hrs from me. So far, our appointments have been at another midwife's house, whom she is working with as reciprical backup, and at another expectant mom's house and one at ours. Our next one will be at her house. I'm not concerned about her getting here in time for the birth, I should be so lucky.

They were almost 1.5 hours away. It seemed far at first, but we were able do some shopping and get Mexican food in the bigger towns along the way, so we enjoyed our trips from our rural village to theirs.
