How far away is your midwife from you? - Page 2

Mine is about 2 hours away. Like another poster said, I wish I was lucky enough to labor fast enough for her to miss the birth...highly doubtful.

With ds my midwife was 2.5 -3 hours away. This time my midwife is 1.5 -2 hours away.

an hour and a half. I'm not worried sick about it but I am rather depressed that the availablilty around here isn't better. My last labor was about 2 hours long. Luckily my midwives lived very close. I'm feeling more empowered and informed this time so if the baby comes before the mw I like to hope we'll cope okay.

Tucson: 2-4 streets away.
Salt Lake City: 2 city blocks, maybe 3.

my last labor was verrry fast and my midwife got there just in time to catch the baby.

Mine is about 4 hours away. Over a couple of mountain passes. I'm just glad I haven't had a winter baby yet!

She hasn't missed either of my first two births and anyway, I always feel very comfortable with her apprentices.

This time around, though, her daughter is due the day after me. On the other side of the state. About 7-8 hours away.:

She jokes about driving back and forth. I don't think it's funny.

My MW reminds people regarding the worry of "will people get here in time" that fast births are typically the most problem free and easy births, it's the slow ones that tend to present more problems.

13 miles from her office
7 miles from her house

mine was an hour away with ds' birth...but now she lives about 10 minutes away!

About 30-40 minutes from her office, not sure about from her house.

My primary MW is about 25 minutes away, her partner/backup is more like 45 minutes. I feel very lucky as there are not a ton of MW's in my area, so to have both within an hour is really fantastic!

2 hrs. and my last birth was 4 hrs, so we may be going UC.

With DS my midwife was almost 2 hours away. For prenatals, I would see my backup OB and my midwife at staggering times so neither I nor my midwife would have to drive that two hours too often. We also talked a lot on the phone. When it came to the birth, it was funny because she was actually at my house for dinner when I told her I thought I was in labor. She checked me, then went home to get a little rest. I called her back maybe 3 hours later so she just got home to change and come back. This time I am going UC since I am living in Japan and am not too happy with the midwife or OB available to me--and I have complete trust in my body to birth this baby!!

About 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the time of day.

Mine is about 2 hours away. We've been alternating between driving down to her and her coming here for home visits. I just hope the roads are good when I go into labor - winter in Utah can make things a little dicey.

My MW's office is an hour away, but she actually lives closer to me than that.

30 mins to office, 1.5 hours from home. My first labor was only 4 hours, so we'll see if this is a UC.
