choose your dr yet?

This might be an odd question, but has anyone not chosen thier mw or dr yet? We had a dr with ds and that's where I went for my blood test, but we're going with a mw this time. Only for one we don't meet/take the tour of her birth center until the 30th-(no earlier openings) and I haven't spoken to the other yet. Also, we are waiting to see if our insurance goes through, and I don't know how long that takes, though they reimburse you for what you paid already. With ds I had chosen the dr and was able to call them even though medicaid hadn't gone through yet, and we hadn't had our first visit until 8 weeks or something, wich I thought was a bit late, now that I think back. How soon are your first checkups with mw or dr?
I guess I feel like I should meet the mw's now so we can chose who we want, and to be able to call with questions or if something happens-sick, spotting etc. Also we'll be flying in Dec around my 6th week, and I've read it's ok, but need the reasurrance.

i have not met my mw yet. i'm new to this town, so i know the names of the midwives from talking with other moms, but i haven't called them yet. i'm not planning on seeing one until around 12 weeks, so since i'm only 5 weeks pregnant, i'm just waiting a while to schedule the appointment.

I just saw my midwife today actually and she seems great. I'm on state insurance, which doesn't cover homebirth midwives, but I am seeing a CNM who only sees women until 30 weeks and then refers them out. This way my prenatal care will be covered by insurance, but I'll still need to pay the homebirth midwife I choose out of pocket. We'll deal with that when we come to it though.
I'm new to this area so I haven't seen anyone here for previous pregnancies. I just picked the only midwife covered by my insurance but she seems really great, laid back and all that.

I haven't chosen yet either. I am touring a birth center next week, and have 2 others to look at. I still need to get my records from the first birth so I can see who will support a VBAC. So I probably won't see anyone before 10 or even 12 weeks. Then I will need to apply for state insurance and choose a plan based on the center I choose being covered. But I can't get state coverage without a dr.'s note confirming pregnancy. Last time, my insurance just sent me to the genetic counselor at 8 weeks, and then to a group appointment at 10 weeks. I don't think I saw my individual doctor until 12 weeks.

I am seeing an OB. I don't see him until early december though.

I have my same mw as I had with dd. I'll be seeing her the first week in December which should be around 10-11 weeks so we'll be able to hear the heartbeat I'll also be flying in December, but I'll be ALMOST to my 2nd trimester then...

I'm using the OBGYN that I've been with for the past couple of years. She supposedly follows the midwifery model of care, and she encourages use of the birthing center, as long as there aren't massive complications. I was thinking about going with a midwife and a homebirth, but for my first birth I feel more comfortable being in a more controlled environment (but very, very uncomfortable with the idea of a hospital). I am going to find a doula to act as advocate, however, even though I don't think of my doctor as a real intervention happy type.

We're consulting with a homebirth midwife on Dec 2. We also might check out a midwife-run clinic in Lansing if DH is still overwhelmed by the prospect of a homebirth (his perpetual question- "Won't it be a huge mess?") but I think Lansing is a looooong way away from where we live.

If we stay where we are I already know who my midwife is but I'm not sure how soon I will schedule the first apptment, probably not till I'm at least 12 weeks, just because I don't see a need to.

We may be moving though and so far I haven't found anyone in the area we are moving to that I would be comfortable with. Hopefully we will find out in the next few weeks if we are gonna move there and if so then I will be seaching high and low for a good midwife that will come to my house for a homebirth or meet me somewhere for a hotel birth.

We don't have a mw yet either. I've emailed a homebirth mw and am waiting to hear back. I've been checking out hospital birth centers around our area as well. The mw's we had with ds were great, but when I was miscarrying this summer the doc on call never called me back so I just don't feel right going back to that practice, and we've moved since then too. I guess we'll figure it out when we're supposed to.

Well I don't feel so alone now if you gals are looking too. I talked to one mw I've heard great things about and plan to meet her tomm. Now all I need is a note from the dr tomm to submit to state insur and hope we get covered. She said she likes to get started with appts right away, so would see us in 4 weeks, wich would out me at 7/8wks. But at least I could call her if I needed her for anything. Ans she assured me that flying was ok, that she actually tells her patients to fly if they can instead of long drives, since most husbands aren't going to want to stop for all those pee breaks
Also has anyone gotten around the private insurance bit of not being preg when you start a maternity plan?

With my first I saw the md at around 6 weeks.

I have my appt made for the 20th with my old dr but may be switching since her is a scady pants with VBACs. I am gonna try and get in to this midwife and most likely won't be seen until around 10weeks
