Friendly vax schedule in the European Unio

Thread Starter
I want to skip Prevnar / PCV / but wondering if its combined with the Hib here in the US...? In the European Unio the vaxs are limited, much less then here in the US, so I decided to follow that schedule. They don't have Prevnar, Rotavirus, etc...
here is their schedule:

0-6 week BCG
2 mnths DTPa-IPV-Hib
3 mnths DTPa-IPV-Hib
4 mnths DTPa-IPV-Hib
15 mnths MMR
18 mnths DTPa-IPV-Hib
3 y DTPa-IPV
6 y DTPa-IPV
11 y MMR
14 y Hepatitis B

While in the US the babies under 2 get 32 vax, in Europe its ONLY 14!!!
I will follow this.

No, PCV isn't combined with anything here. You also don't need that set you have listed at 3 years either.

I'm really surprised by the six DTaPs and the six IPVs. That seems like overkill even by American full-vax standards. And there's only one dose of Hep B? This is very interesting - can you link? Also, what's BCG?

That is the vaccine for tuberculosis, which incidentally is not used in the United States because U.S. health authorities don't believe it's effective . . . but they think vaxing for D,T and P from cradle to grave is a good thing.

Why does that surprise you? A child in the United States will get six (6) doses of DTaP/Tdap by the time they get into sixth grade.

Well, actually, in the US the standard for the early childhood schedule has been 5 Dtap doses and 4 polio doses, as opposed to 6 for each in what the OP states is the EU standard. Yes, you could look at the new Tdap as a 6th DTaP, but it's not till age 11 or 12. The OP is stating that in the EU there are 6 doses of DTaP in early childhood. So that is front-loaded by American standards, as is the number of polio doses she is indicating.

I'm surprised that you are surprised by my surprise. :

Okay, you mean the rate at which the doses are administered. Regardless of the rate at which it is administered, the EU health authorities know (just as the U.S. knows) that the vaccine sucks and they need to cram in as many doses as possible.

As far as the U.S. and the wait until age 10/11, keep in mind that there is no pertussis-containing vaccine licensed in the United States for children ages 7, 8 and 9. But you can be sure that if DTaP or Tdap were indicated for this age group, they would recommend another booster earlier and "re-arrange" the schedule. In fact, I would bet on it.

Also, I don't know if Tdap has been licensed in the OP's country yet. When it does, you can be sure another booster will be recommended.

FTR, the U.S. is looking to recommend Tdap every five years as opposed to the current ten year interval.
