help dying playsilks

Okay, I got my playsilks from Tahi Silks, and I want SOLID colors. LOL. I tried dying them in a big pot of hot water with 3 packets of koolaid and maybe 1/2 cup vinegar, and they came out all mottled. Any help?

What colors are you going for? I've only had a couple come out really solid.

any.. I tried 'fruit punch' last night, trying yellow right now

To get solid color you ned to stir the pot frequently so hat you get even coloring. Otherwise, if the fabric stays still the folds or where it may be scrunched will act as a "resist" and receive less color.

IME reds oranges and yellows don't dye well with koolaid. They wash out. I've had good luck with purple (grape) and blues and greens.

if you haven't tried the mango definitely get hold of some. it makes an absoutely perfect orange and it has been colorfast for me.

What do you guys use for blue? I can't find a blue koolaid? I'd be willing to order something if it isn't too pricey, I love blue :P

We have several blues.... I think one is a blue raspberry and there's at least one other blue too. They tend to come out to the turquoise side, but VERY pretty.

I think it might be Berry Blue. We do have an absolutely perfect turquoise. I can't remember if I mixed it with the Arctic Apple (a really nice green) though.

Berry blue makes a really nice blue in my opinion. Ive gotten good solid coverage with dying my silks in the microwave. I'll have to go look for my instructions. Stirring is still very important
