How much is your costing?

I'm curious about how much your midwife charges for homebirth? The going rate around here is $2000 + supplies which I know are not much. Just curious to know what they are elsewhere.

Oh yeah $50 for supplies, but that's it.

I live in a province where it's covered by the provincial medicare.

$2300 + $50 birth kit & small $ for herbs.

With my DD in England, it was 2600 pounds sterling for a private MW.

With my DS, also in England, it was FREE on the National Health Service (NHS) and my London borough had a separate Homebirth Midwife Team!!

Rates are going up around here. Now my midwife is $2500 if you pay by 24 weeks. It goes up from there up to $3600 after the birth.

Well DH feels that it would be best to buy the supplies from the Midwives office just because it gives him a little bit more of a piece of mind in case of preciptious labour. He figures in case he has to do it all he wants to have the adequate stuff on hand so he doesn't mess up too badly

It's all in the Homebirth Handbook from the BC College of Midwives.

When I had DD in Ontario I didn't have to buy anything either. Of course my midwives knew I was poorer than dirt and could hardly afford the TP to wipe my butt let alone a homebirth kit, so they just gave me some essentials and that was that.

My midwife is $2200 and then buying a birth kit. Some of the things I was able to find at Wal-Mart and then the other stuff I ordered from Cascade.

$2500 + GST - you know, because its not a necessity to give birth. (GST for you non-Canadians is goods and services tax - for things that are not necessities. Eg. (most) groceries have no tax.)

I'm in Alberta, and work for AB Health. They know it would be cheaper than hospital births. They know the Canadian Society of Obstericians and Gyn. supports midwifery. They know there are not enough Dr.s doing births. But, if they funded it, they might have to talk about vaginas. And blood. And women's rights. And all those other icky things. Grrrrr.

In Calgary, I think the going rate is $2800.

That said, in Edmonton, there is one hospital where several midwives work under the direction of a doctor and the services are free. Its a good choice if you are ok with a hospital birth (albeit, they have nice birthing rooms.) I didn't choose to go there because you are not guarenteed your midwife (they rotate) and if you need any interventions, you have to transfer and your midwife does not come with you.

NYC - $6000. insurance will cover almost all. law in NY: if your insurance doesn't have an in-network midwife for homebirth - they have to cover who you choose! (and my insurance has no in-network midwife!)

$2400 if paid by 36 weeks. That includes all prenatal care and "routine" labs. I think you buy a kit for like $40 too.

That's a little more than half of what it was to pay a birth center out of pocket last time.

Thought I'd come back and add- my midwife is one of the cheapest in town. The "big name" midwife was over $5000 last I heard....
