I have searched the web to no avail. I looked in the phone book to find only one.

Can anybody recomend a mw for this area? :

You should ask on the tribe board for CA.

ARe you close enough to travel to or use a midwife in the greater Sacramento area?

My sister had a great midwife when she lived in Jackson, let me give her a call and see if she has any leads.

Sac is about 50 miles from us.

That would be an option but I might end up birthing without the mw again if she's that far away

Velcromom, thank you

Ok, sis says the only one she knows of is in Herald which is down near Galt. However she says she knows a local pg mama who is using a mw & she is going to try to get ahold of her to ask who it is. I'll let you know what she finds out.

Other resources to explore/people to ask about mw's:

Melanie Miner, a doula, used to be owner of Chrysalis Birth Services. She held classes out of the Holistic Health Center of San Andreas. I don't know if she is around or if the Center is still open but as of '03 the number there was 772-0511. At any rate if you can find some local doulas, they may know of any midwives in the area.

You guys are so helpful, thank you!! :

You might try calling the local OB department and talk with the nurses - they always know if any mw's are doing home births, if there is a birth center, etc.
They can also steer you to the best OB if it comes to that.
Good luck...

But a birth center or an hospital isnt a homebirth which we need.

I forgot to ask at the health food store yesterday when we where there.

I think Carla meant that the staff at the OB dept could give you leads - they may know some names for you or other places to call & ask, and if there's a birth center give them a call and ask them the same questions - tell them you are looking for a homebirth midwife and do they know anyone or do they know anyone who might know.
