Flu Mist Facts?

Thread Starter
I know there are several threads about this, but does anyone know of any actual studies/links that have information about the flu mist having a shedding risk or actually causing the flu? I was thinking half-heartedly about getting it, but mostly I'm just curious. My little sister has gotten it for the past several years and the only side effect she's ever had is a stuffy nose. (Which she has a lot so who knows if it is even related!)

I have a four month old and I really wouldn't want to give the flu to her or have her get it from my sister who just got the flu mist yesterday.

Transmission
FluMist contains live attenuated influenza viruses that must infect and replicate in cells lining the nasopharynx of the recipient to induce immunity. Vaccine viruses capable of infection and replication can be cultured from nasal secretions obtained from vaccine recipients. The relationship of viral replication in a vaccine recipient and transmission of vaccine viruses to other individuals has not been established.

From the insert:

Due to the possible transmission of vaccine virus, vaccine recipients or their parents/guardians should be advised that vaccine recipients should avoid
close contact (e.g., within the same household) with immunocompromised individuals for at least 21 days.

FluMist is live and absolutely DOES shed.

Yeah, I don't think you can get any stronger evidence than the manufacturer admitting to it.

I am guessing that it's not 'safe' for my ps'd dd to be sitting surrounded by her those who have rec'd the vax in the push for the free flumist? Any stats available on the % who get sick via shed?
