Is this outfit OK for a wedding reception?

We are leaving today to go to an out of state wedding reception. Ds is just about 5. I am planning on dressing him in a pair of corduroy pants, a cute red striped shirt w/o a collar, brown belt and brown dressy shoes. I am now wondering if that is dressy enough. I will be wearing a skirt and blouse and DH in a suit.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Just wanted to add that the reception an evening reception at a banquet hall with out dinner. If that makes any difference.

Is it an afternoon or evening reception?

I think the cords, belt and shoes sound fine, but I would probably have him wear a shirt with a collar.

Have fun!

I would also tend to go w/ a collared shirt (though some non-collared shirts look nice). That said, I really don't think it matters at that age. What is MUCH more important is that DS is comfortable and happy so it is easier for him to behave well. We tend to go w/comfort at important events to lessen the stress!

Have fun.

The shirt is a nice non-collared shirt. It is a shirt he could wear to church or for school pictures, etc.

Then go for it! I think w/the dress shoes and cords it will obviously look dressy. I really also don't think "the rules" apply to smaller kids.

That sounds dressy enough to me.
It makes a difference that he's wearing a belt and nice shoes, rather than sneakers.

Have fun!

I don't think kids have to be dressy for occasions until they are 8, or 9 or 10. Old enough to sit at the table and be engaged in the conversation. If they are going to be playing with their trucks under the table or chasing balloons, they just need to be comfy.
