Neva Mason arrived on October 31st at 3:17 am. She was 8 lbs 7 oz and 21 inches long.
We are thrilled and she is perfect! Such a great baby, hardly ever cries, very alert, a great nurser and sleeper! We are so in love, I had no idea I could love so much!
We had a planned homebirth but ended up having a VERY different birth than I had imagined. I am at total peace with how it happened and totally surprised myself with it the whole time here is the story:
October 30th 7:30 am, sitting on the couch, got up, GUSH...... I run to the bathroom, realize my water had broken, and when I looked it was the color of pea soup....
I knew that is not the greatest sign. Then BOOM...strong contractions with in 3 minutes. Our midwife came over and we decided that my plans for a home birth were going to change. I labored at home until 1 pm, and headed off to the hospital.
We had a wonderful nurse who use to be a midwife and embraced us with open arms. I labored in the tub, on the ball, in the bed, and by 9 pm I was complete. After 14 hours of hard/back labor I was thrilled I made it!! Then it came time to push. Well this is where it changed.
I couldn't push through the pain, I wasn't doing it "right", I would push as hard as I could then when I needed to push harder, I got so scared and would pull back. I did this for 2 hours. Then a new nurse came in and mentioned an epidural, I quickly said "OK". THis totally surprised me, but I was so tired and I felt it was a good decision for me. They gave me a very low epi, I was still in pain, but I was able to let go of the fear at this point. I rested for about an hour and started to push again. Again..nothing.... the on call doc came in and said that the baby is stuck, I am not pushing effectivly, I have been complete for 4 hours, then he dropped the "C-S" word!!! At this time I said "hell-no" had them put up the squat bar and 2 HOURS later of hard pushing with all my might she arrived!!!
The nurse and doctor couldn't believe it. They thought for sure I would end up with a C-Section. They cut the cord quickly, and wisked her away to make sure she didn't have any meconium in her lungs, which she didn't. When I heard her little cry it was total elation!!
When I look back I loved my birth! I loved the laboring process, felt so empowered, my husband was so amazing and by my side the whole time, my midwife was wonderful. I feel like I really stepped up and got this little one out. So although just about every wish and detail of the birth "I wanted" was different, all that really mattered was that my baby was healthy and she is. I feel so blessed, it is all so amazing.
