Do you think The Titanic movie (with Decaprio), would be ok for my DD to watch? - Page 2

doesn't the jerky fiancee slap kate winslet across the face? That is something I would have a real problem with dd seeing. She turns 7 in two weeks and has been bugging me to watch this for months. Luckily, our Blockbuster doesn't have it, so I have been able put it off.

This trilogy is Dds favorite!

Well I did watch it, no tears! Its been years since I saw this movie but I have decided to have Dd wait. The sex scene was fine for her but it was the ending that I think will be to much, especially the part where the boats don't come back to get them until its to late and the light from the flash light shines right onto a frozen mama holding a frozen baby, dead, floating. I think this specific scene would really affect her. Theres also a part where the captin shoots himself in the head. I think that would scare her a little much as well.
I talked with her about waiting and told her that there are documentaries that we could rent that she might like too. She was fine with waiting, thankfully.

That part has scared me for life and I saw it when I was 15 and I own it on video and have never opened up the video.

I think 8 is young for all the dead bodies, etc. Yeah, I remember the flashlight, etc.

Tangential, but I saw this movie in the theater on my due date with DS#1 (he's 8.5 b'H now). Missed a lot of it, had to go to the bathroom every half hour ... but anyway, we thought all that water would inspire my water to break. Didn't work.

Depends on the kiddo - I happened to wish that I never saw that movie - ever. It broke my heart - I was physically upset by it - (not the acting) but the scenes of the ship sinking. I couldn't help but think that there probably WERE moms with toddlers, trying to comfort them, knowing that within minutes they would all drown - or elderly couples clinging to eachother, etc....My ds (very sensitive kid) watched part of it when he was around 10 and he couldn't watch the rest...just too damn sad.....

My initial reaction is NOOOOOOOOO.

My SIL let my (mature) 8-yo DD watch that movie at her house, without my permission. There is a nude scene, a sex scene, and all those frozen dead people in the water (including a baby). DD was totally traumatized, and I was completely pissed at my SIL!!!!!

Maybe your 8-yo can handle it - but mine is very sensitive and couldn't. I'm not sure she'd even want to watch it now, at 13.

That would be putting it mildly ... as I remember, Kate went flying, knocked over some stuff, and ended up on the floor. :
