? about ultrasounds when using a mw

I plan on having one ultrasound around the 20 week mark ... when you are using a hb mw how does that normally go? DOes she have to write a prescription? Is it normally done at a hospital or an imaging center? Or do you go to her backup OB? Do they give you the results or do they send them on to your mw?

Just curious. My next appt with her is on Tuesday and I assume my u/s will be in the next 2-4 weeks.

I got a prescription from my MW and had a u/s at an imaging center last week. They sent the results to her just as they would have to an OB. I'm not sure if that's the norm, but it certainly was simple!

My mw had me go to a crisis pregnancy center where she knows the sonographer. She sends her clients there if they need a sono.

I went to an imaging center and they sent the results to my mw.

Mine refer to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist practice that backs them up. They have super-fancy machines, too... we got 3D pics this time as part of their routine package. The doc is super-nice too, and remembered us from my DD's ultrasound 3 years ago though he only saw us the once.

I have seen my back up ob twice and once I went to an imaging center with a referal. I perefered my back up to the imagining center though, they were much nicer and more knowledgable at the drs office.

It depends.. My DEM can't write an RX so I could have requested an ultrasound at the local imaging center and paid out of pocket.. My DEM does work with a CNMW, who will sometimes write an Rx for one..
My friend, who is using the same DEM, got her GP to write RXs for all the needed tests.. so they would be covered by insurance..
Could you do shadow care through a low cost clinic until you get the tests you need and then discontinue care?

I order sonograms at the local hospital. Not all my clients get sonograms, but some want one at 18-20 weeks to check everything...some couples want to know the sex. The one reason I like to get a sonogram is if a woman has any spotting or bleeding.....when having a homebirth it is good to know that the placenta is not low lying or covering the cervix. This is common on early sonograms, and then they have to be repeated to make sure the placenta migrates....18 weeks is a good time to get an overall picture of what his going on with the pregnancy.

I went to the imaging center my MW recommended. They sent all the reports directly to her. It was easy and the insurance covered it all.

I volunteer weekly at a crisis pregnancy center. They happen to have a registered ultrasound technician on staff, and she's going to do my ultrasound for me.

So nice to save money, too.
