*lillie's Birth Story-with Picture*

Here goes the story.

On Monday Nov. 6th I started to have early labor symptoms. Contractions were ranging from 10-30 mins apart. The cramping was all in my back. I posted on the forum and wondered if it meant labor was just around the corner...
So that day pasted and I went to bed early at 11 pm that nite cause i had a feeling that I mite not get a good sleep due to the ctxns.
I woke up Tuesday am (Nov 7th) at 6,....feeling strong contractions...breath taking...
i sat on the toilet and wondered "should I go into hospital?".
I called and they said come in for a NST and they'd check to see how far I was dilated.
I went in @ 0700 with DH...they hooked me up. The nurse checked me and I was 3 cm. They admitted me and got the tub going as I was experiencing alot of back pain. My mom came in and sat with me also. i was extremely nervous.
I was hoping I could get thru this without any medication..but I soon found out that was not gonna happen. The pain was excrutiating.. So i asked for something. i got morphine in my butt. That just made me feel like I was floating. Then I VOMITED a whole bunch in the toilet. Then they gave me an IV with sugar water to keep me hydrated.
By then the pain was getting worse. I had another analgesic given to me. then another repeat dose. By then I could hardly keep my eyes open.
I was using the rocking chair and a heat pack on my back. Oww the pain was horrible.
My Dr. was called at around noon and he came in around 1:30 pm to break my water. I was at 6 cm dilation before he broke my water.
They hooked an internal monitor on the baby becuz they wanted to ensure the HR was ok due to the meds I'd received.
I was then thinking I mite do an epidural because the pain was intolerable. I was almost hyperventilating each time and the nurses told me to slow my breathing. I didn't holler or yell or swear. but inside my head I was cursing.
So I asked for an epidural at around 2:30 because I had tried everything and no pain relief. the laughing gas was a waste of time.
They checked me and I was 9 cm. TOO LATE for an epidural the nurse said. i kept thinking "how much more can I do!!" I felt like I had to push and they said i had a little bit of cervix left and to just breathe thru it.
At 2:45 pm I started to push. I had my baby girl at 3:29 pm. There was a resident on the ward and she delivered Lillie as the nurses didnt call my dr. in time and he didnt make it until a few mins after she popped out.
Lillie was very purple. My DH didnt have a chance to cut the cord because she needed oxygen. But she was pink in color just seconds later.
WOW... 9 lbs 10 oz. she is sooo beautiful.
I heard the resident say that I had a little tear and that they'd need to stitch it up. I felt numb anyways. Sooo..45 LONG minutes later they were done. Yah..I guess the small tear wasnt so small and it was actually veryyy deep and the tears were not straight. I could feel the needle and the anesthetic wasn't working. But I just sucked it up. Yikes! I was bleeding alot and they gave me something to stop it.

I had tonnes of visitors after i got moved to my private room. I felt a bit overwhelmed but by 8 pm they all cleared out and it was nice to enjoy the time with my DH, my parents and babe.
I almost had to get a catheter becuz I was not peeing and it was due to the extreme swelling down below. I finally was able to go and "phew..the IV was removed also".5000 mLs of fluid later.. Errr.
Soo...today it has been 4 days since the birth.
I am so happy. DH and I are just delighted. She is a good baby. She only cries when she needs something. And well the sleep is an issue. She likes to be on her belly. So I have not been in my bed very much the past few nites cause i sit up in the chair with her. and doze. So I've gotta break her of that habit and have her use her bassinette.

Well I try to come on the forum at least once a day. but sometimes there just arent enuf hours in the day. But I will definetly keep in touch.
I enjoy reading about you all that are still waiting for you babes to enter the world.

Take Care.

OP,
why do you feel you need to break your baby from sleeping the way she is comfortable? i have always found sleeping with my babies to be the safest way for both of us to sleep.

congrats on your birth. Next time you may want to think about going to the hospital much later than you did this time. That way there are much fewer interventions.

I'm so happy for you! And I know you are sleep deprived, but I would just cuddle that baby as much as you can! Do you have a sling? Oh--and I know everyone says BACK ONLY for sleeping, but Carly did just fine on her side--and I can't see how on her side would pose a problem or cause her to inhale any spitup ya know?
Are you bundling her well? That helped my dd too...
A sling is great because you can 'attach' her to your body and even lay down (with pillows behind your head--in bed--at an incline)
Then if there is any 'problem' with her breathing on your chest, you will feel her/hear her and wake up. Also if she is on your chest, she is patterning her breathing off of yours--so you have a smart girl wanting to be so close to mama!
Her breathing pattern will fit yours--like 2 breaths to your one or something like that...
CONGRATS mama!
