To switch to a booster or not...?'s - Page 2

What we did, was get a booster that has a 5-pt harness option, like what Electra posted. We strapped it into the car with the seatbelt, and used the 5-pt. harness until he was over 40 pounds (as per the directions) and then took the straps off and used it as a booster after that. There is a lot of difference though, between a 34 pound kid and a 40 pound kid. I would not do a regular booster before 40 pounds.

Here's Ilana in a Rounabout. The strap heights are exactly the same as the 65# seats so don't fit babies any better. You can see the straps are too far above her shoulders and there's too much room at her hips. She could actually pull her legs up into that space after I fadtened her in.

Wow, that's powerful! I can't remember -- the straps are supposed to be slightly below or even with the shoulders for rear-facing, right?

Britax allows them to be slightly above the shoulders if you're using the lowest setting (I'd say an inch max). They were a good 2+" above her shoulders though.

It depends on your model, check the owner's manual. With the Britax, the belt is supposed to be slightly above the shoulders, but just by a hair. That's why I linke the new Wizard, as it has a knob for fine tuning the height.

This is our 3rd carseat and the 2nd Britax, she outgrew the Roundabout - my favorite part was that it had a real denium cover and looked like a pair of jeans. I dislike the synthetic velour and whatever fabric they are using on the Wizard, but I can't do much about it.

After seeing the video, I measured our daughter and saw that she had 3 more inches before she is out of the Wizard. I guess we'll be getting a Regent before the booster. I don't think she'll be significantly heavier in 1 year - she is 45 pounds now.

This is why I don't let her ride the bus to school, no seatbelts for kindergardners! All because the bus companies want to fit 3 to a seat. Not that seatbelts would be any better, imagine 25 kids with severe liver trauma! No ER could handle all those little patients.

My britax manual (boulevard) says that the straps should be below the shoulders when rear facing. Above when forward facing.

Hi Jennifer! I just now recognized you from the other forum.

I was going to get a booster for my 5 yr old until I read more about it. I decided to get him a Regent. I also bought a Marathon for my 2 yr old and put him rear facing again.

My next step is buying a safer car.

DO NOT put him in a booster! Keep him in a 5 point as long as you can. Its so much safer! Best bet for long use and a great seat is the Britax Regent.
It goes up to 80lbs!
