GD book with tools for 3 year olds- with no punishment? What worked for you?

I am feeling like I need some new tools to deal with my very strong willed dd , who will be 3 in March. She is extremely verbal, speaks in full sentences and often just totally disregards requests or explains to me that she will not do what I am asking, sometimes adding things like,"Make no mistake, I will not do that, ever, ever, ever." I kid you not. She just hears adults telling her not to do something, and uses the same tone and words to tell them not to. If I physically take what she is into away, (after a kind and firm warning etc) she says,"Mommy, you grabbed that away. That isn't nice. I was playing with it! No grabbing!" You get the idea. She is also starting to be sooo bossy, which I know is normal, but I do not like the tone she is using with people. It sounds so rude and unkind. We don't talk to her like that, we really don't.

I do not want to punish or bribe. But as we head into the three's, which I hear can be even more challenging, I need some new tools. I really would rather not have a kid no one wants to be around. I feel like all the stuff I used to use, like redirection and explaining, just isn't working anymore. There has to be more good info... tell me what worked for you!

Have you read Raising Your Spirited Child or Kids, Parents and Power Struggles both by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka? I highly recommend those, and Unconditional Parenting (more for the paradigm than actual tools, IMO) but is an excellent resource for non-punishment

I have read Raising Your Spirited Child, and I LOVE Unconditional Parenting(that is actually why I mentioned no punishment-Go Alphie!)

But I am going to buy the other book today. Thanks!!

Without Spanking or Spoiling by Elizabeth Crary was a great find for me when my first was a toddler. My son is now 27, so it's an older book. I think Love & Limits is the name of one of her newer books.

Becoming the Parent You Want to Be has tons of concrete ideas that are totally non-punitive, and that work (ime).
Good luck!
