Midwife in Orange County, CA

Hello,
I was looking though old messages for midwives in OC, CA.
I am considering South Coast Midwifery Center in Irvine, but read a few negitive comments. Does anyone have any suggestion or comments I should take in consideration of a midwife in OC? Any frank information would be welcomed. I am having my baby in July 2007.

I'm using South Coast Midwifery. We're happy with them so far, baby is due in March. But if you prefer someone different, http://www.socalbirth.org has listings of CNMs and DEMs both, in Orange, Riverside and LA Counties.

Thanks for the reply, who is your midwife over at SC Midwifery? Good to hear you are happy with them. Any tips you can pass along? I am seeing them next week. I am pretty mellow as far as my birth plan - Just want good kind care.

They alternate between the two of them for prenatals-- I don't think you get to pick which one comes to your birth, they switch off call. I don't mind this since there are just two of them. Amber and I "click" better personally but I like Lorri just fine as well, and they are both very knowledgeable. Lorri has a lot of patience-- I wanted the AFP and some other blood tests, and I have terribly scarred veins, and she did the blood draw herself and waited very patiently for the tubes to fill up oh-so-slowly.

Also the coffee shop on the ground floor of the building is pretty good. I'm not sure about tips to offer. They have been treating me more on the medical side, but that's what I need; at the tour, Lorri mentioned that they do attend the births of Christian Scientists, who obviously refuse everything, so I guess they must be pretty flexible overall.
