If you are having a hospital birth. . .

and think your doctor may have your due date too early make every effort right now to get an early ultrasound to confirm when your due date should be. I am saying this because I thought with my first they had my due date wrong, I told them and they said if it is off we will find out at your 20 week ultrasound. Little did I know the 20 week ones were way less accurate at determining the age of the fetus. Still my 20 week one placed my baby due 10 days later but my doctor still would not move my due date. I was having a homebirth and my OB was just my back up but when that duedate came and went, and 2 weeks had passed I had EXTREME PRESSURE from him to go to the hospital for an induction instead of having my planned homebirth. I finally out of fear picked a day I would go in to get induced if she didn't come on her own and thankfully labor started about 4 hours before I was scheduled to be at the hospital to be induced and have a homebirth.

Not knowing the right due date though really caused me to have a lot lot lot more pressure to get induced though. My "due date" was 10/21 and she was born 11/7 (I thought based on when I though we concieved she was probably due around Halloween). She was perfectly healthy still had a little bit of vernix on her and did not look over cooked at all, but had my doctor had his choice and I made no gripes at all he would have happily induced me days after her "due date"

So ladies now is the time to get a early ultrasound if you need to prove to your OB that the due date he has on his chart is too early. And too early of estimated due dates make induction so much more likily so please please please try and get them corrected!

My doctor does an ultrasound at 8 weeks.. this would be the first doctor I have had that has done that and I am glad for this reason. I know I am not due July 15 (according to my LMP I am) and I have a longer than 28 day cycle I am figuring I am due more along the lines of July 21 and probably won't go until August because my body likes to cook'em until they are well done.

You are smart, and no matter what they say just stick to what you know. My midwife and doula were encouraging and supportive and that helped me stick to my guns and wait as long as I did to schedule my induction and thankfully it wasn't needed and we had a homebirth. But I was crying my eyes out the night before because I thought I was gonna be induced.

I was induced with all of my babies... and I think because they were off on their due dates. I know more now and refuse to allow it to happen unless absolutely necessary.

I think after having gone through what you went through last time that you'll be even stronger and able to stand up for yourself better this time. I'm not against ultrasounds and if you really think that's what you need to do go for it, but I do think that, from the sounds of it, you'll be strong enough to stand up for your body's and your baby's rights when the time comes.

I o'd on cd41 so I know that my EDD would be way too early if based on my LMP. I don't know if I am going to be seeing a doctor at all (maybe just hb midwife), but if I do I was thinking that I would lie and say that my LMP was Oct. 17th, so that he/she doesn't think anything's wrong.
Or should I tell them the truth (Sep. 20th) and hope they trust me based on my charting?

You know, honestly, I expect a lot more out of a homebirth midwife than a regular OB in terms of knowledge, especially about charting. In all honesty if I consulted a midwife, showed her my chart that obviously shows when I o'd, and then she still refused to use that date than I would get a new midwife. I was calling around to midwives today to set up consultations and one of them asked me my LMP. I hesitated but decided to tell her the truth because I almost felt like it was a test. At first she tried to go by that but once I explained I was charting and have 37-40 day cycles she said we would sit down and figure out my edd using my o date. Then she even asked if I was using fertility friend and how much she loves that program. I think she passed the first test!

LIE!!! I just went through this. My LMP was 9/3, but I KNOW, I did not ovulate until 10/16. I made the mistake of telling them the truth. Fortunately, after enough convincing, showing them my chart, and feeling my uterus to only be about 6 weeks, they gave me the correct due date of 7/9. Originally, they were saying 6/8. Can you imagine?? Just lie...it's easier!!

Babies come on their birthdays."Due dates"are an artificial construction.Unless my baby was showing signs of distress I'd leave him right where he was !
