For the expert, more experienced non-vax'ers...

*IF* you know a one of your unvaxed children's playmates have recently received a "shedding" vax, are you cautious about that?? I know I've got a while before DD is that age, but as of now, I'm not comfortable with the whole thing yet to knowingly do that (I'm not sure why, I'm just not, though). So I thought I'd ask the experts. I know there's no way of knowing most of the time, but if you DID know....

Well, I personally avoid kids that had the rotovirus vax because I hate dealing with puke. But my dd already has had rotovirus, so I probably don't need to worry about that so much since we obviously all survived. Other than that, I never worry about it. I would actually be thrilled if she caught measles, chicken pox or something like that from a vax. Doesn't seem to happen very often though, so I don't have my hopes up or anything.

Not to mention your child will be exposed to freshly vaxed people everywhere she goes. The grocery store, library, doctors office, church, etc. Vaxed people and kids are everywhere, no point to worrying only about the ones you "know" are newly vaxed. So it's best to learn about the diseases and be ready to "treat" them if and when it's necessary.

No, I am not cautious about that at all. Basically, because, regardless of what I know or don't know about certain individuals, there will always be someone shedding something around and there is absolutely no way to shelter one kid from every possible bug, unless I am prepared to grow my kids in a locked sterile box, which I am not. So I just accept shedding *whatever* as part of the environment that my healthy kids have to deal with anyway and concentrate on keeping *them* as healthy as possible as opposed to trying to avoid things I can't see .

No.

I would think a very new baby needs protecting. But not if it is bf. So, I guess the answer would be No.

No because we go out and about and go into stores all the time where those who have been just vacced I am sure shop/go

I wouldn't be cautious - honestly I'd be more worried about the poor kid who just got vaxed.

No. I never give it a passing thought. I am quite confident my children's immune system is able to handle most things. Of course my kids are older, but, it was never an issue with me when they were babies either. They all nursed until they were four plus years old and I have had measles, mumps, rubella and I assume a sub-clinical dose of chicken pox.

No...not cautious...because my son is likely to come in contact with SOMEONE who could be contagious (with anything) ANYWHERE...and I have a peace about his intact immune system...that even if he does get sick, his body is healthy enough to fight it properly.

Just an FYI--there are four different strains of the rotavirus...they, of course, get less and less severe, if you get more than one...but just thought I'd let you know there are four strains of rotavirus.

Hmmm. I wouldn't stay away from any recently vaxed kid, but I do not want her to catch the flu from a recently vaxed person. Measles, mumps, rubella or chickenpox is cool with me, but not the flu. It's not that I'm scared of it at all, but it isn't like measles or rubella or something, where she'd get lasting immunity, so I see no point whatsoever in her catching the flu if we can avoid it.

See I don't particularly want to catch measles or mumps now that I'm older...yes I feel I could handle it, but I don't want it. DS is another story...though I'd prefer he'd be a tad older before he caught any of this stuff. I'm sure his system could handle it now but, I'd still prefer older.

What irritates me is that my mom had Measles and Mumps, breastfed me for 17 months until I weaned myself, and I still got MMR! Can't pass that immunity to my ds now.
