I run a blog where I post reviews of the books I read at Bryan's Book Blog. Recently, in August 2005, I posted review of the book From the Borderlands: Stories of Terror and Madness, edited by Elizabeth E. and Thomas F. Monteleone. The premise behind the Borderlands series is to give voice to experimental horror/terror stories that might not find a voice in the main-stream markets. It is a place for such lumiaries as Stephen King, Bentley Little, Whitley Striber and John Farris to place some of their "stranger" stories.
Anyway, in August, I read and reviewed From the Borderlands. My review is here. For the most part, I enjoyed the stories that the Monteleones had chosen. However, there were two stories in particular that I didn't. Enjoy. At. All. "Dysfunction" by Darren O. Godfrey and "Magic Numbers" by Gene O'Neill. Both were written in the horrid 2nd person voice. I'll spare you the details ... it's all there in my review on my blog ... and long story short:
The day after I posted my review, I recieved a comment from one Bev Vincent, one of the authors included in From the Borderlands. Luckily, Mr. Vincent's story was one of the best stories in the collection.
Today, about 40 minutes ago, I recieved another email notice that there was a new comment of my blog. This one from Darren O. Godfrey. Author Darren O. Godfrey.
The same Darren O. Godfrey who wrote "Dysfunction," included in From the Borderlands
- the same "Dysfunction" that I completely panned in my review. The same Darren O. Godfrey of whom I said in my review:

I posted both posts - and they're both there at the bottom of my review. How embarrassing!

| Often times we come across an author/writer that we love, and want to find more of his work. Holly Newstein, Jon F. Merz and Brian Freeman from this particular anthology are good examples. Darren O. Godfrey is one of those "others." If I never read another thing by Mr. Godfrey, I can die a happy Reader. ... The long and the short of it is that if you happen to pick up From the Borderlands, you’d be best served by skipping Godfrey’s story and getting on to the better ones contained therein." |

OOPS!

: He seems to take the criticism well. I don't think it's that embarassing; writers know their work will be reviewd and they know some won't like it. I doubt that most writers take reviews that personally, and this writer especially seems to have handled it well.

: Well, I agree, he took it quite well!!
