I am 39 weeks pregnant and had ordered the single measles vaccination for my 28 month old son 8 months ago. Anyway, the vaccination is finally in and I was wondering if anyone out there had any information on whether or not it would be harmful to give this to my son NOW vs after the baby is born in terms of him possibly shedding the virus and infecting the baby.

I wouldn't give it to him AT ALL until you further research vaccines- don't mean to sound snarky, jmho.

Giving him the single measles shot is a compromise between my husband and I. I don't agree with vaccinations and he does so we selectively vaccinate.

Well, that's not a compromise I'd be willing to make... but measles is live. I would think that it wouldn't be a great idea to be exposed while pregnant unless you had natural immunity (not vaccine)

I'd wait till the baby's around 6 months old or older.
Mainly because there are freaky animal viruses (contaminants of the live vaxes) that I'm fairly sure the vaxed kids shed, as well as the attenuated measles virus.

i'd wait until after the baby is a year old or so...if your dh is worried about measles, have him do some research on the disease - measles is very very rarely fatal. My mom remembers measles as something everyone got (like chicken pox was for most of us)...she laughs they way they treat it like a deadly scourge now. Its one of the VPD that I'm least afraid of. of course - it is more severe in college outbreaks, because the disease is worse for adults. imho - no live vaccines around pregnant women, including flu mist!!

Can titres be checked for measles? If so, I'd do that before injecting in the first place.
The measles vaccine by itself is the scariest part of the mmr, imo. Iirc, measles has been found in the gut of autistic children, and I firmly believe in the gut-brain connection. I also believe the vaccine does not allow a complete immune response so the body might have a harder time getting rid of the virus that way.
