Praising Question

I am learning and need help with something. My 13 month old has habit constipation and we are working with a homeopath to correct it. He will not go poop without us giving him a glycerin suppository. I am hoping that in the very near future he actually poops on his own and wonder how to deal with this regarding praise. Believe me, I will want to jump up and down and throw him a big party! We are obviously not potty training him, but we need to get him to poop on his own and not hold it in. So how do we reinforce his pooping without praising it?

He is still mostly breastfed and he started having problems once we introduced solids around 10-11 months. The homeopath believes that he has some painful ones and has learned to just hold them in.

I think it is fine to react in the genuine way you feel. "Whew honey, I bet you feel better, I'm so glad you pooped and it is all done. Let's go read a book" or something like that.

I agree with the PP - focus on the benefit to HER when she goes (that now she's more comfortable, now she feels better, or whatever). Steer clear of telling her how YOU feel about it and you should be fine.
