Sarah's dolls patterns

Thread Starter
Has anyone tried the downloadable patterns from "Sarah's Dolls"? I am looking at the 16" "my baby" that's here because it looks pretty easy and I want to make a simple doll for ds for christmas. I bought a heavy baby kit from joy's but I'm not quite ready to dive in yet and I think he needs something simpler and lighter first. I like that I would just get the pattern right away...
thanks!

I haven't made one of her dolls before but she has always answered my
e-mails very quickly- considering that she is in Australia. She is very kind and helpful. I have heard a lot of good things about her DVD, too.

I ordered a couple of her pattern downloads, and honestly didn't care for them. She doesn't give her instructions in a systematic manner (i.e. it was VERY difficult for me to find where it said what the finished circumference of the head-ball should be), and the patterns don't print out the correct size. I also couldn't get the pattern to print out properly (gobbelty-gook characters instead of letters), and when I e-maile her about it, I never recieved a reply.

I'm hoping others have had better luck, because she gets rave reviews in a lot of places!

I have 2 of her patterns including the 16" baby. I thought it was a really easy pattern and Loved that she lists the exact weight (amount) of batting to use when stuffing. I didn't have any issues with printing the pattern correctly so perhaps that was a one time problem.

She has a table at the start of the instructions telling you the size/weight of the heads for all of her dolls.

I've never seen or tried to use the patterns, but I wanted to mention that if the patterns come from Australia and you experienced size/printing problems in North America, it's probably due to a paper size issue. Australians typically use A4 paper which is slightly different than the usual North American size of 8.5x11".

So there might be a way to convert it for your printer for better results. This comes up a lot in our household because my Australian husband sometimes needs to print government forms here in the US, but he usually just lets the printer shrink it down to fit.

I doubt it was a paper issue, as the pieces wereprinting off about half-size. (This was for the button doll.)
But if nobody else has hadthose problems, maybe it was just on my end. However, I did not get a reply e-mail when I wrote about my problem.

I just got an e-mail from Sarah! If anybody tries to e-mail her about a problem and doesn't get a reply, try again because she says she ALWAYS answers every e-mail. If you don't get a reply, that means your message didn't go through.

Anyway, she e-mailed me to say that she has repaired the ill-printing pattern files, and once I get my pattern updates, everything should print out exactly as I need it to.

So, for the price of her patterns, I'd say you'll get an excellent value with her patterns.

I'm SO glad she contacted me!

Stell, I am happy to see you updated and got the issue resolved. I know Sarah has posted to the Yahoo group that she has had e-mail issues in the past.

It was within 24 hours. Remember, she's in Australia - totally different timeframe!

Sarah is one of the few doll designers that allow unlimited use of her patterns for commercial purposes. You can make and sell all the dolls you like from her patterns! Check with her for the details.
