no vax...ok, now what?...

ok, I think I'm on board with the no vax, or at least no vax until after DD is 2...maybe...ok, so I'm still not sure, but she's 6mo and no vax yet, so who knows, she might be 2 by the time I read all the research out there and make up my mind!..ok, the question I have now is, what happens when my no vax'd DD is around someone who just got a vax? I know that someone who is freshly vax'd sheds the virus for x amount of time...what then? I can't go around asking every person we come in contact with if they just got a shot? And what about being around vax'd kids? is there any risk? I know I'm against the MMR, Chicken Px, and HepB...so far. She goes to the ped tomorrow...

Only some vaxes can shed- the live ones. Those are: MMR, chickenpox and the new rotavirus one.

Personally I didn't worry about it as I'm not afraid of any of those diseases.

Just don't worry about it. Most of us try to avoid people who just got FluMist if possible, but otherwise, a newly vaxed kid shouldn't be a threat to a healthy unvaxed one.
It's not terribly likely they'll catch whatever the vaxed kid just got vaxed for anyway, but even if they did, it wouldn't be a big huge deal.

I think worrying about vax shedding is overrated. Okay, so you don't want to vax yet, it's probably not a huge issue. And, hey, if she gets CP or measles from a vaxed kid, that's reason to celebrate, cuz now you don't have to get the vax. You should probably thank the parents for needlessly exposing their child so yours could get natural immunity.

those are all vaxes we certainly won't be getting.

I'll add, also work on your nutrition and do the best you can with it as the better nurished your and your children are the less likely you are to get ill.

PS. You probably already know that, I'm just chiming in.

This question bugged me as well!!!
But then I say to myself- VPD are not as dangerious as stuff they put in Vax!!!!

I almost got DD the DT today since the ped said her natural T ran up at 6mo, but I'm not sure I want aluminum in her...so we skipped it and will think about it for the Jan appt

and the ped said the same thing that only mmr and cp shed, but who really cares since they are not bad...and polio used to, but she won't get it...hmmm...seems to me that the ped doesn't really think any of them are necessary at this point other than T

Tetanus is an interesting one to push for a 6mo old. Did he say exactly how he expected her to contract it? And as for her "natural" immunity to T???? That makes no sense at all.

Keep researching. There are a bunch of good threads here on tetanus.

good luck!
