? about HS teens...

DH & I are strongly leaning toward HS our 3 DDS. Only one is in PS right now the other 2 are too young yet.

We are discussing the pros/cons and trying to see if it is 'for us'. We don't want to be disillusioned. We are quite unhappy with ODD's school & don't see another good solution (we think we'd have all these issues no matter what PS (or private) we send them to). This year has been an incredible year of growth for us as far as breaking away from mainstream life, I guess. We've done and are doing things that while are the right decisions for us, are quite different than what our community of friends, family, acquaintances & co-workers are used to all in the course of a year. That combined with the fact that our DD's education is extremely important to us is driving some very thorough research.

So in thinking this all through I am wondering...Are HS teens less likely to engage in risky behaviors than thier PS(or Private) counterparts?

Thanks

Heather

I don't know if they are LESS likely, than their ps counterparts. I think many factors come into play when it comes to self distructive behavior or risky behavior, not just how one is educated.

We have a hs teen that we pulled from ps 3 years or so ago and he doesn't engage in "risky behaviors", but he is a well informed and respected person by us and others.

My Mom-inl-aw says it best:
"Your children will grow up to be INSPITE of how your raise them." Do what you feel is best for your family.

I think that the percentage of risky behavior is probably lower - I guess I could delete the word "probably" - I'm pretty sure it's definitely true. In fact, my now grown son would confirm that - he's often remarked on it. Although, of course, it all depends on the family and the kind of respect and understanding and affection they have among themselves. You can read some of my son's comments - and his dad's comments about the same sort of thing - in an article I wrote about our experience:
