play w/ babe?

nak

so, Simon is 10 weeks old and much more alert now. I feel like I should play with him (rather than just sling him all day), but he doesn't seem interested in toys. We make faces and funny sounds and he likes that, we also walk around with him...

Anybody have play ideas that are good at this age?

Aria and I just chat it up. I copy everything she says and make silly faces at her and watch her try to copy me. I also shake rattles and other colorful/ noise toys and watch her try to figure out where it is coming from and we just started with her reaching for some toys to try to grab on. I give lots of applause when she gets it so even if it were an accident she will try it again. The other day she actually was purposefully hitting her toy that makes noise. We were taking turns. She is 12 weeks today and it has only been in the last 2 weeks that she is interested in her toys enough to play. She has been noticing and watching them for about 4 weeks but couldn't figure out how to get her hands to them. She is getting better every day! Still at this age she prefers my face which is normal.

Isn't it exciting to see the changes?

I wouldn't want to applaud my sweetie just yet, when I clap near him, it sets his startle reflex off and he freaks out a bit

We get lots of smiles out of Simon when we make faces. Daddy plays "superbaby" with him (holding him over his head).

Babies are cute

Stella has discovered her own hands! And how to put them and other things in her mouth...makes me think of future babyproofing...
Her motions are still kind of jerky, but now when she reaches out, her fingers are grabbing and holding on to things better than ever...
So far her favorite toys are mine and dh's faces, pieces of fat yarn I tied in a knot, and a fabric book that she can grab onto. Oh, and the woodstove...we call it baby tv because she loves to watch the fire inside!

yep, we had a fire the other night, too and Simon was fascinated

he's sortof discovered his hands, too, but pretty much just flails around a lot at this point though he did freak me out yesterday when he was shoving his whole fist in his mouth and gagging himself...sniff sniff, so proud

Nate is beginning to grab soft toys. He likes his Taggies blanket. But his favourite pasttime is chewing on his fingers, either his thumbs or his whole fist. But boy does he get upset when he bites himself!! His favourite thing to do is to look in a big mirror together.

DD loves to watch mobiles.

She also tries to touch the moving parts.

We bought her a bell on a rope. We dangle it in front of her so she can touch it and make it ring. It is soooo much fun for her.

Spike LOOOVES his mobile, too. It's on the changing table, and sometimes he's have so much fun I just strap him in and fold some laundry. He also likes his rattle, watching and batting, and seems to like books! At least, he's starting to work on turning the pages of the thick cardboard books. His motor skills are still pretty rough but he's definitely making the effort.

Ds likes to bat at stuff too. Just today I noticed he tried to grab instead of bat. His bouncy seat has stuffed toys on a toy bar that he likes to try to get. He also likes hanging in his amby since I hung a music box stuffed puppy and a teething toy in it for him to look at. Other than that, he love being talked to and talking back, chewing on my/his fingers (he does the fist thing too) and he loves watching sissy play (and *gasp* likes sneaking a peak at the tv when it's on).

OOh, it's getting so much fun with the grabbing and laughing and focusing! Cleo loves to play pat-a-cake with her feet, to have a light blankee pulled from the sky to slide over her face, to watch my parents' dogs, to talk back while i'm reading, to grab toys in her crib and to touch my face all over, which sometimes hurts. Ugh, baby nails! We also blow lots of bubbles and make lots of raspberries together. It's getting so much fun! I love the way that when I hold her now, she holds me back.

I love this too! She can finally grab onto me around my shoulders when we walk around. It's funny the way we take the simple things for granted in older babies until we have a wee babe that we get to watch learn everything!

I love all Kienan is starting to do

The smiles and giggles, the looking at everything with awe, making faces with his sister.

He isn't into toys at all just prefers watching and talking
