my cute little girl

Well, I guess my oldest isn't feeling any desires to go to preschool! Today we were watching construction workers, and one of them walked by and said "stay in school!" as he passed toward his truck. He meant it as something light and funny to say, I guess. He was smiling and looking cheery. Anyway, dd1 got a horrified look on her face and yelled, "I don't WANT to go to school. I want to do my OWN school!!!". She then proceeded to cry.

I quickly told her she didn't have to school, that the man was just trying to say something nice. She said over and over, "I don't WANT to go to school, I want to do my OWN school!" Finally she calmed down and gave me a big hug.

Poor sweetie-pie.

I agree! What a sweetie!!

But,can you believe a construction worker said the very same thing to my dc when we were watching some work going on?

I replied to the guy that I knew what he meant, but that I totally respect those in his line of work as it is very hard work. I also told him that he gets paid better than teachers in our state!

Hmm...guess I've forgiven that occupation for all the yrs of hackling when I was a spring chick!! (No offense meant! )

I completey agree with you. I think it would cool to be a construction worker, actually. If he hadn't been concentrating on consoling my daughter, I would have said something along those lines to the nice man.

I think the construction worker was trying to say that dropping out got him his gig and it wasn't a dream job in his experience
Unfortunately, what he doesn't know is that school tends to give you is the same gig with nicer clothes

I have to agree that he was most likely just being nice. Poor little girl though.

Personally speaking (as the daughter of a *just* recently retired construction worker) the gig does pay well. But, on the other hand you wouldn't believe how many guys my dad worked with who couldn't read!!! My father was *very* big on my brother and I staying with our studies at least through high school because of that very fact. The guys who couldn't read or could hardly read are the reason his hardhat didn't have his last name on it like everyone else's (being the nice *long* german name that it is) he ended up having to take the first four letters of his last name, ended it with 'man' and had that in *big* bold lettering on the back of his hardhat.
I think my Dad actually helped a lot of guys learn to read enough to get by. When he went into construction he was almost finished with his electrical enginering degree. So, long story short you either go into construction because you're nut (my dad has a thing for heights LOL!) or you don't have the education for much of anything else and you need the money.
