She's here and I think I take the size prize!!

Maya Isabel E. arrived Wed Nov 15 at 9:43 am.....
10 lbs 15.4 oz, 22 inches long!!!!!!!!!!
.6 oz shy of 11 lbs!!!!!!!

Wasn't quite sure if it was the real thing or not between 1:30am and 3:00 am, sat in the tub for an hour before thinking, hmmmm....maybe I should get DH up. Unfortunately DD woke up and DH could not get her back to sleep so I stayed in the tub another 45 minutes and at that point realized it was DEFINITELY time. We would get stuck in rush hour traffic if we didn't get on the road quickly.

We left the house at 5:30am, arrived at the hospital at approx 6:30 am with contractions coming every 3 minutes!!! I was 8 cm dilated upon arrival!!!!

Unfortunately, they discovered my BP was high and I had protein in my urine. After blood tests, I was diagnosed with full blown preeclampsia. The OB and hospital staff were wonderful at allowing us to stick to our birth plan as much as possible (being 8 cms helped) but we needed to deliver ASAP. Hypnobirthing techniques and my DH were wonderful. I shifted to "birth breathing" when I felt the shift in my body and started breathing Maya down. Everything was going well, and the baby's head was out but there was a sudden chance in the OB's voice and a rush of hospital staff in the room: Shoulder Dystocia-we were later informed a very dangerous situation where the baby is stuck. I was instructed to push as hard as I could, don't stop. Between pushing, the staff's quick manuevering including what felt like someone standing on my stomache, and the Universe on our side, Maya was safely and quickly delivered completely naturally and med free. Oh, and no tearing!!!

We are happily home now, recovering and falling maddly in love with our big, beautiful baby.

Anna (atpeace) and Jennifer (jennkraig), looks like it was "it" after all! Anna, we did it the same day after all!!!!!

So do I take the size prize for DDC so far???

Congratulations!!

I do have to warn you, though, I may give you some competition in the size department. My DS was 10 lbs 10 oz, and he was born before his due date. Today I'm 42 weeks, 1 day, so I will NOT be surprised if she's 11+ pounds. (And I REALLY hope she shows up soon!)
