Need book recommendations for DH....

I am trying to do no-spend this Christmas. I have some book credits at paperbackswap and thought I'd get some books for DH. Problem - he generally just reads my books when I am done with them (2 a week or so, as I am an avid reader). I don't really buy new books, which would be out at this time anyhow.

So - I'm looking for some "adventure" / thirller book recommendations. He really liked the Everest book that came out a few years ago (about the disasterous season when a bunch of people died), Doctor on Everest, and another book about a guy who tried to live in a bus in Alaska. Problem is I have no idea of some other titles.... Other than that, graphic novels, or thrillers (in the vein of Stephen King).

Thanks!

My dh loved The Perfect Storm. (The movie was based on a book.)

there is an awesome graphic novel called something like persephone? it has a sequel too. it's very feminist in sensibility.

I was going to suggest "that book about a guy who tired to live in a bus in Alaska"! By "thriller" do you mean scary, or thrilling adventure? Dh is into fantasy and scary books, I could ask him about thrillers. Oops. just saw "Stephen King" thing. I'll ask dh.

Oh my gosh - THANKS! NewcrunchyDaddy - great! We've read some of them (just finished Neverwhere by Gaiman). The list is awesome. I can hopefully find some of the titles on paperbackswap. You've given me a lot to choose from.

It sounds like you read like we do!

Ooh! Ooh! I recommend Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. It takes some getting into, but it is an AWESOME read.

The only reason I didn't mention my blog is most of the titles I gave you were pulled from my reviews since starting Bryan's Book Blog.

You mean like mad? + NCD =

Yeah, my personal library is 1,500+ titles (includes some repeats due to audiobook editions, but for the most part it is separate and distinct titles). I'm working on cataloging them on LibraryThing.com. So far I have about half of them up at my LibraryThing listing. It's a fun site. Plus I'm an English Lit major so... books just go with the territory and always have. I've never been much for sports or gaming and so books have always been my thing.

Yeah - pretty much that. Let's just say the most common comment about our house is "Wow, you have a lot of books." We have a huge entertainment center in our bedroom, you know the kind that will hold at 30" TV. No TV in - that is where our "to be read" book stash is kept.

:

We live in a two bedroom apartment, and let's just say that it's a good thing we're APers and co-sleepers because 1 bedroom is full of books on 5 bookshelves. There is a bookshelf in our bedroom filled. There are 4 bookshelves in the living room - packed to capacity, and there is even a small bookshelf in the kitchen filled with cookbooks. I think it's safe to say we're book people too. Whenever someone says "Wow you have a lot of books," DW just smiles. She always tells me that I could have a worse addiction than books. :
