Anyone speak fluent Italian? I've been wanting to learn for years. I try and I know a bit but I've never had the time to really study. So now I'm looking for movies or CDs that not only introduce Italian language but that also are interesting to watch and hear. :-) So just name something you like

Thanks!

Johnny Sticchino! (probably spelled horribly)

It is the first and only Italian film I've ever seen and I loved it.

I wish I could say I'm fluent, but I'm about where you say you are--I've studied off and on for years (mostly off ), and keep meaning to pick it up again. In the past, I've used the Living Language series of books and CDs. They're pretty good, I think. As for films, I have a few favorites:

The Son's Room (La Stanza del Figlio)
Aprile
Caro Diario
--All of these are by and starring Nanni Moretti. He's great.

Il Posto (can't remember the director's name)

That's all I can think of for now. Ciao!

italian classics:
any fellini movie--la dolce vita, 8 1/2, la strada
the bicycle thief (ladri di bicicletti)--exceptional movie (you will cry) and anything else by de sica--i liked two women with sophia loren (la ciociara)
l'avventura is ok--i'm not a big antonioni fan but he made blow-up which they made into an american movie with john travolta (?)
la terra trema by visconti

i would start with the bicycle thief
