Jess

I never post on the weekly thread, because I feel too sick to be chatty most of the time, but when I saw your sad news, I couldn't not post. Do take care and heal soon. I'm sorry you won't be around for the duration.

Hey Ladies,
This week has been a tiring one. I have been taking care of my mom. We had to go to the urgent care (Not a small feat, this woman refuses to see a dr) and she had a bladder kidney infection and her blood sugar level was 554! So she is a diabetic.
I am exhausted dealing with medical stuff for her, and just plain tired. I think I am 18 weeks now. I think. Maybe 17. But I look HUGE!

Well thats my news for this week.

Jess~ I never get around to reading these weekly threads...I'm so very sorry for your loss. Please take extra care of yourself, and all the best trying again. ((hugs))

I'm really sad to hear about Jessitron's loss. It totally sucks! And I will be sorry to see her leave this DDC because she's so darn funny. I haven't usually been posting on these weekly threads, either, but just wanted to say that.

This is my last week of doing nothin' but sitting around chatting on the The Internets, because I start my correspondence courses next week. Books are already here - intimidating. But I am going to make sure I keep up with how everyone here is doing... it's really cool to have others going through the same things at the same time to read about or talk to. Glad I found this place.

Jessi-you will be dearly missed. Sending you strong mama vibes to help you get through this difficult time. We all love you and can't wait to hear of your next pregnancy. Enjoy a big glass of wine for me this thanksgiving. And then eat some yummy sushi with a glass of saki! Thanks for adding so much fun to this ddc! Good luck, mama!

I know that it is only Wednesday am, but this week just seems to be flying by. I have so much to do after dh gets home this evening. Gotta get a small casserole dish with a lid so I can make the greenbean casserole for thanksgiving dinner. I also need to make a new towel cozy for my casserole dish. Those are pretty easy though. I also have a few errands to run this afternoon which will also make the day go faster. I am all for that since ds doesn't have school today. Grr! : I don't wanna have to deal with a full day for ds beating up on dd1 and then having to listen to her whiny skrieking. Mostly cause I wanna slap dd1 silly for not staying away from ds when he gets into those sorts of moods. That is another story all together however.

Anyone else gonna be doing lots of prep work today in order to get ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow? Hope that everyone has a good day today.

Remember earlier in the week when I was fondly recounting Thanksgivings in the Northeast, and how we have baked Turkey? SCREEEECH! Stop the presses! My MIL is making Salmon for Thanksgiving! SALMON??? I told her that I would not be able to eat Salmon because of the pregnancy and mercury, and she said, "I didn't think you ate meat. I didn't think you and (my DH) would eat any of it anyhow." I said, um, okay. Well, I'm sure some people will enjoy it, but what are you planning on having as side dishes, so we can plan what we'll bring for us to eat. (Thinking, if you knew 1/3 of the people there wouldn't eat it, then...???) She said, "Side dishes? Oh I don't know, I hadn't even thought about that. But you're still bringing your apple crisp, right?" It's the day before Thanksgiving, and she hasn't thought about what the menu will be??

So, apparently, we are having Salmon and apple crisp. LOL Please grant me patience!

My DS, as a comfort to me, says "Don't worry Mom, the pilgrims ate Salmon."

jess , i'm so sorry for your loss! i haven't really posted much, but i do a lot of lurking. you'll be missd, please keep us posted.

my parents are visiting this week from the west coast. it's been very trying at times (and they just got here sunday!). my mother insists that my sister and i should drop everything to make this holiday "special" for her and my dad since they travelled so far; she's upset that we're going out to eat for thanksgiving instead of cooking at home. but my sister lives in a tiny apartment and dh and i are moving into our first house next week and it just wasn't feasible for either one of us to take on the responsibility of cooking (i have visions of myself falling asleep just from the smell of the food).

last night i was talking to my dad about the physical discomforts of pregnancy and he actually said "well, you're not the first person to have a baby and you certainly won't be the last, so get used to it." HELLO?!? This is still the first time I've experienced pregnancy, show a little compassion.

Which I guess is how I'm trying to view this whole stressful week...as an opportunity to practice compassion. Happy, happy turkey day, mamas.

Eating salmon once won't do any harm, just don't eat it every day. Maybe she's smart enough to cook a wild salmon and not a farmed salmon? Or is it the other way around? I always forget! At any rate, once won't do the harm, it's the accumulation of many meals.
I like to take funeral potatoes.... they are easy and quick to make and just about everyone will eat them! the recipe is out on the internet in a dozen places, alter to your liking. Sometimes I add chicken. DON'T add an EGG!! I tried that to thicken it up once and what a mess! :

Happy Thanksgiving all you US mom's! No holiday for me boooooooooo!!!

OMG! What is is with some of these parents (soon to be grandparents)!? I wonder if my mom isn't like that because of what HER mom did? From the sounds of it her mom was very much like your dad (and a few others that have been mentioned). She refused to help out and didn't have anything positive to say to my mom. My mom didn't even TELL her until she was 5 months because she knew what the outcome would be. Consequently my mom is being GREAT about everything and trying to help out and be compassionate and understanding. So, just know that when YOU become a grandmother you will probably be like my mom, nice and helpful. It is a gift that your father is giving you now.

well, since we have no family here and we already did a mock thanksgiving dinner for DH's birthday last week (as per his request) we are moping and thinking PIZZA for tomorrows feast.
Probably rent a crap load of movies and veg out in front of the TV all day. Everything will be closed so there is not much you can do at -30 anyway.

Baby wise all seems to be fine and dandy here. Still kinda leary after my m/c back in July so I get nervous just before my appointments. 15w2d today!
My Intended Father's are sending me a digital Video camera to record the pregnancy and my appointments! LOL. So we should have some fun with that. THey are also sending a music CD and a CD with their voices on it for baby to listen too. THey are so cute! Gonna be awesome daddies!

Salmon is wonderful (speaking as a true alaskan here) and I think making a non-traditional dinner is a great idea. You can eat it if you like, just once will not harm you or baby. Of course wild is better then farmed but it is up to you if you eat it or not.

Have a great time!

I am so excited about this Thanksgiving! We are staying home instead of going to the in-laws (they're a 10 hour drive away), and we all went to the grocery store today and got everything, it was so fun. I'm going to try to work out what I need to do in what order so everything is done around the same time (is it just me, or is that the hardest part of cooking for everyone?!). I think I'll cook the sausage and cornbread for the stuffing tonight. And I have recipes I need to look up - I'm making a lot of what my MIL makes but I'm going to try to NOT ask her for the recipes. LOL

My belly is getting hard and really being felt over the last few days. Like, when I lean over and stuff. I wish I was feeling more movement, but I guess I should just stop complaining since I am feeling some every once in a while.

I eat wild salmon (comes in a can) pretty regularly, I've heard it's the best fish to eat as far as mercury goes. And it's delicious. I wish someone was cooking me salmon! I would ruin that for sure.

I think funeral potatoes are what my husband's grandparents call party potatoes. Probably because they don't like to talk about funerals, but it's pretty funny to think about the dish being the same thing - suitable for a funeral, or a party!

Off to spend time with my husband! It feels like we haven't seen each other in a while!

ok now really. what's with the boards being so slooooooowww lately?? everyone stuck in the bathroom from too much thanksgiving food? or out shopping like giddy maniacs?? hmm.

I am very much alone today. Sniffly :, not even any leftovers to eat, and my kids are with their daddy until tomorrow afternoon. I am trying not to sit on my behind ALL day, but my books are calling my name like always..

So over the last few days, or week really, I've had this unbelievably wicked pain in my hip, and it was actually bad enough to get me thinking about going to the doctor about it : This is not typical of me at ALL, so you know it was really hurting! Anyway, I read an article on Babycenter that described my pain to a T, and said that those symptoms don't indicate sciatia or anything freaky, but a normal pregnancy ailment made worse by lack of exercise. So I sucked it up and went for a good long walk yesterday, and it feels loads better! Talk about a kick in the @$$ to go exercise! I wanna go buy pregnancy exercise tapes now, LOL!!

in other news, the prospect of moving to Germany to be with DP was looking bleaker and bleaker for me. You know homeschooling is illegal there?!? I'm SURE they'd also have issues with homebirth, and un-vax'ed kids as well. Not to mention OH YEAH i need to learn German, get a work permit there, etc etc etc.... So in light of all these obstacles, we've been talking about options, and DP is now looking into coming back to the US instead!! I mean, not that anything's for sure, but HEY it's great to have options!!

Also, not that any of you will be particularly interested, but this myspace artist friended me today, and omg it's all i've been listening to for the past hour! They're great--funky, dancy, cheer-you-up music. If you're interested you can hear them HERE.

now, everybody tell me about what fun you had SHOPPING when you finally remember to check MDC!!

Jess :

We had an okay Thanksgiving. Dh convinced me we'd have more fun staying home (not driving the 11 hours to my parent's house) and doing our own thing. WRONG. Hormones go the best of me and I cried at least 3 times while we were cooking. I love my family, I love hanging out with them. I'll be home for Christmas...(now I sound like a song).

The food was good. Dh's new turkey thermometer broke and dh was convinced it was working fine. I finally got him to take the dang thing out of the oven and try my cheap poultry thermometer and the thing instantly shot up to 180F. It was more than done : But lots of gravy helped My sweet potatoes ROCKED. It may have something to do with the 2 sticks of butter and generous amount of brown sugar...hard to say. All in all, the day was okay. We'll be doing the big drive to my parent's next year
